So, I recently sold a knife to another member. He sent me his address via PM instead of having it registered to paypal (something I usually won't abide by, but chose to overlook this time).

It turns out that when he wrote his address, he wrote Blah Blah Blah !4th street instead of Blah Blah Blah 14th street. In the midst of the rest of the address I didn't see the mistake.

When not printing labels via paypal, I print them using my stamps.com account. The stamps.com software automatically corrects and reformats the address once you enter it.

Whenever I recieve a shipping address from someone via PM or email, I copy/paste it directly into my stamps.com software, to prevent typos/transcription errors. In this case, it actually "caused" one. That way they get the item sent to the exact address they typed with their own hands.

Anyways, long story short, this guy paid $40 and does not have a knife. It got shipped to the wrong address. It is partially his fault for sending me an incorrect address, and somewhat my fault for not catching the typo.

It find it hard to place blame here, but I also find it hard to decide what a fair resolution would be for the situation. Part of me feels like I did nothing wrong, but part of me says that it isn't right to stiff the guy for accidentally hitting the shift key. I'm really stuck here, and want to find a solution that's fair for both of us.

We're talking $40 total here, this isn't a $500 knife. That doesn't make the principal of the situation any different, and I don't want to do anything unfair.

his fault for giving you a b/o address.

not your responsibility to know where he lives. you could have easily ignored the ! and put 4th street, and it still wouldn't be your fault.

if he didn't want his address listed through paypal, he should have made damn certain he pm'd it correctly.

Does seem quite the comedy of errors here...doesnt it?

Give him the address that you shipped to and see if he can handle it thru his local post office. Maybe they can have an investigator drop by the address to claim the parcel. Either that or he's gonna haveta go to the address himself to ask for the knife.

Or you could be a nice guy, eat it, and give him a refund

It should not mean the knife is gone forever because it was shipped to the wrong address.

It should be simple to get in touch with the people who got the knife in error and IF they refuse to return it have the person go to the Police because then it becomes a Criminal act!!

Just so we have the facts here is the addy I typed, The mailing addy is Martin Woodfield 1527 E. !4th Ave. Spokane, WA. 99202. Hit the shift key and the exclamation point is over the 1 on the keyboard. I sent it as payment owed rather then gift. In using google map the address is a park. So I have to assume that is going back to the OP. We will see and I am assuming the return address is on the package.

Yes,it will be returned if there is no such address.Ive been through this myself. It may take some time.

It looks like it is coming back your way.

Ok great, looking like this will have a happy ending. Looks like we're going to bide our time and wait for it to turn up. I guess we're pretty lucky that the typo ended up being a non-existent address. Made things a lot easier.

As soon as it gets here I'll reship the knife with the correct address. :D

One of you will get the knife back...If its the seller the item can be reshipped..Other wise the package should be headed off as the last known PO on the tracking info...Go to that post office and make a claim on the address misprint..
