need helping chossing between brkt, fallkniven, and rat cutlery

That's far from a fair characterization of the issue.

+1.... read all the threads and you will get a better idea of what Mike did. I own many of their knives and have suggested BRKT to many people, but as I stated in the GB&U, I will never do that again.

Best of both worlds:

You can get the F1 with custom handles HERE.

I have two of them and the contours on the micarta handles are fantastic.

PLUS they cost less than the micarta handled F1GM. :)

If I didn't have so darned many F1s already that natural canvas F1 would be coming my way.

Where do you get the Kydex sheath with the flint holder? I love it!

Thanks jdowell and Brian-T! I'll check it out. I found a member here on BF that makes custom FI kydex sheaths too (jll346) and already put an order in, but I like the belt attachment on these better. Judging from your pics it looks like you can let the knife ride lower. I might have to get one of those later, thanks again!

I'm trying to remember the last time I ever received a Fallkniven as a return from a dissatisfied customer. Perhaps there was one somewhere back in the past but I can't remember it. I recommend Fallkniven knives all the time and even use them myself. Very good performance and durability. There are prettier knives to be sure but not any of the same kind of construction that outperform them.

The RAT's are a little beefier but they are carbon steel so you will have to deal with corrosion. That's an issue for some people and not for others. A decision you have to make. Although I haven't used one myself, I think the RAT's are outstanding in terms of fit, finish and materials.

I have little personal experience with Bark River. It is a very difficult line for people like me to sell because they only make every model one time. They make a slew of handle materials and one either keeps track of the various sku's or drops each line as the first sku sells out. The sales don't justify the kind of work required to keep that line current. That results in an inconsistent and temporary and overly broad assortment. I tend to handle the line poorly and it sells poorly as a result. I haven't found anything that motivates me to spend more time on it. Other lines are easier and more productive like the two mentioned above.

Fit, finish and materials are just fine, however. I'm sure they work like they should and I wouldn't have a problem recommending them at all. I don't know if that helped but it let me ramble for minute or two. ;)

I have an '07 LE North Star - it's pretty good for bushcraft. Better, to me, is the Fox River... best is the Gameskeeper. I bought the least expensive Bark Rivers I could find - the LE NS was a 'special', while the FR was black and the Gameskeeper natural Micarta. They were all delivered perfect - with razor-sharp convex edges.

I handled a recent F1 once - at a gun show - I don't like rubber grips, sorry. And... they charge a real premium for Micarta - unless you visit Derrick's site (KSF) - where he has some Bark River & Sharpshooter collaborations with F1 blades, B R handles, and great Sharpshooter sheaths - now there is an F1 I like! No experience with RC here.

I like the Fox River, like I said, but the North Star has it's followers - the 'centered' point is better for drilling, if that's an important attribute. Thumb notches are handy, too. The grip is just short to me - shorter than the Fox River - which is shorter than the big handled Gameskeeper. I also had the misfortune of slipping my grip when wet once last winter on that N S, getting a paper-cut like injury to my forefinger. I was on my back deck, tired, cold & wet, my CTS was bothering me, and I had polished the already slick G10 handles of the LE N S... recipe for disaster. I was fortunate. I like the F R's choil - and the Gameskeeper adds a finger guard, too - not to mention a heavier blade and handle. I like Bark River knives... great value... and have had great service from Mike, etc, there.

I'd try one of the KSF custom F1s, except for local 'politics... the CFO, aka my wife, has declared a moratorium on knife purchases. None too soon... I've been looking at Busse's...

PS I know, you bought an F1. I predict you'll love it. I have only seen one used one for sale at a gun show - and a new one would have been cheaper through the mail!
