Hey, Im almost brand new to this sight but have been collecting for years. Ive noticed spyderco knives seem to hold up the best of all knives ive owned . So which spyderco would be the best for lock durability, edge holding and everyday ( hard use) Ive had the navigater, and a few others but none quite did it. any suggestions would be awesome since my only way to purchase is internet.

Zero.

Probably the 83mm Manix. Just as strong as the Manix, but the shorter, less pointed blade should be less apt to break. Thats my thoughts anyway.

Either the Large Manix or the Mini. I hear that the Military was made for overall durable use as well.

Gonna have to go with one of the "tanks" on this one. Any Chinook, Manix, or the Military though I personally do not like linerlocks. Id take a Chinook 3, beast of a knife and you could probably stick some C4 to it and it would be fine. Could also look at tthe new fixed blades that came out, surely those can take a beating too.

you know if theres any good testing for these knives or what you could say from your experience

The compression lock and back lock are Spyderco's strongest. The Lil' Temperance seems to be the strongest Spyder that over time does not develop any blade play.

My Manix is a tank of a knife, and the mini Manix I handled was just as stout, just shorter. The Mili is tough, especially for it's weight and being a liner lock, but I don't think it is in the same class as the Manix/Chinook/Mini Manix in terms of durability and strength, but you would have to get pretty tough on it to break a Military. I have a D'Allara DP on order, I hear it is a pretty stout folder also, but I'm definately not expecting it to be nearly as tanklike as my Manix.

I own a milie, and love it. I've also handled the manix and mini-manix in passaround.

I chose to purchase a milie after handling the manix in passaround due to weight/bulk of the manix. It was far too heavy for me comfortably pocket carry. The milie, on the other hand, fits nicely in my back pockets. At the time I bought the milie (instead of the manix), I thought "I'm sacrificing strength for weight."

However, after owning the milie for a few months and putting it through its' paces at work I would put the milie up against the manix in every respect. I am pleasantly surprised by the milie's liner lock. Solid. I did some prying with my milie on light gauge metal for a small electricl project and the lock handled perfectly. Honestly, I was more worried about the tip snapping off my milie while prying, but I was glad to see that the tip showed zero signs of weakness. The more I use my milie, the more impressed I become with the milie.

i bought a millie 440v rated at 85% , its very clearly been heavily used , i got it today and it still locks up like a vault . thats a fairly old knife now and obviously been used a fair bit ( you can tell by the overall condition , right down to the g10 being completely smooth) blade has plenty of scratches looks like its never been touched up though. its a SE by the way . on monday i`ll start using it as my work knife.

I'm not sure I would agree with those statements. The Lil Temp is good but I think the Manix is rated as a stronger lock by Spyderco.

Nobody mentions the ball lock but everyone I have had had ZERO play and were quite solid. The D'Allara Drop Point is a heck of a knife for the money. It cost about $60 steet compared to about $110 for the Manix. It is not as good as a Manix but if price is a real issue, I think it is about as good as you can get if you need a strong Spyderco. No corners were cut in quality, just materials. It is FRN not G-10 and it is VG-10 instead of S30V. Still, it is a solid knife for not a alot of cash. If you break this one, you need a fixed blade.

But, like others have said, the Manix, Mini-Manix, Lil Termp, Chinook, Military and ATR are quite strong. Here are a few other strong ones: Endura 4, Delica 4, D'allara Rescue, Spyker and Para Military are pretty good as well. My choice would be a Mini-Manix or a full size Manix if I were going to use it hard. My Manix is my camping knife but my new CF Military is my everything else outdoors knife if that tells you anything. Hiking or backpacking, I will take the Military, for camping only, I like the Manix. Really, either one could do any job but I like the light weight of the CF Military if I am just hiking around.

manix lock may be a bit stronger but with that, the desighn on the temperance doesnt require a super strong lock, plus there is no blade play in any direction with the temperance unlike most lockbacks with all have someplay.

Cutting rope, nylon, Lots of cardboard, Wood sticks, and hacking at trees for camping hunting and such. Working or my car, wire stripping cutting rubber and plastic and wires. Food preparing. But the biggest concern is a lock having zero play after use for hacking and the veryhardest pressure for cutting. Dont want the blade to dull easily either. Best steel i can think of is S30V. What do you think. Open to other companies such as benchmade kershaw. No gerber thankyou. Preferably axis lock, liner lock or compression lock. I would consider a lock back by spyderco if it were jsut as strong wich most are, But im very concerned with the blade play

My recommendations:

C70TI A.T.R. Titanium
C95 Manix
C63 Chinook 3
C69 Lil'Temperance
C101 Manix 83 mm

There have been more reported failures of the Manix's lock (as well as some of their other lockbacks) than with any of the compression or bb locks, as far as I know--I dare say, more than their liner locks. I don't have stats to back this up, just from reading people's posts. I love Spyderco, but I just don't have much faith in lockbacks in general.

if people didn`t abuse folders , it wouldn`t matter what locks they had. folders are mad for cutting not chopping or battoning or throwing
