Need reccomendations for 4in EDC Folder

If you want to go big, i reccomend the BM Onslaught...
If you want to go light, the Spyderco Military...

Regards,

Andre Tiba - Brazil

I have the BM 710. I like it alot, however, for some reason it just doesnt seem to be as sharp as some of my other knives. Who knows, maybe it's my lack of sharpening skills. I use a Sharpmaker but anyway.

So here is what I got so far. Somehow they are all SPydercos
Endura
Police
Military
Resillience

So of these which one and why?? I am trying to look at the specs right now to find out which one offers the best blade to handle ration. One thing I don't like is an excessively long handle. One of the most important features I would like it to have is for it to sharpen quickly and hold an edge. Being easy and quick to sharpen is the most important factor. I don't know how to compre the different steels of these

A lot of great recommendations here - let me also add my support as others have done for a Hogue EX-01. I have the 4" tanto with black aluminum scales and it is a really great knife.

Also - if you can find one in the forums - a Benchmade Rukus.

If this is the major factor, then the resilience with the 8Cr13MoV will probably be the easiest to sharpen to a freaky sharp, hair whittling edge.

I have not read all the responses, but I'm pretty confident I can say "another vote for" the Benchmade 710 as I'm sure it's probably been mentioned more than once or twice. I've also heard good things about the Spyderco Military, but I'm pretty sure it's a liner lock, and while strong enough for most tasks, I trust my Axis lock knives over a liner lock any day. It's one handed, and completely ambidextrous, in both opening and closing. Liner locks are not designed with lefties in mind, which I'm not, but I know something like 4% of the world are. Only thing I'm not sure of is whether or not the 710 is light enough for you. I'm pretty sure it's a mid-4 ounce knife. The blade shape is perfect for utility tasks, though with a slight recurve edge, maybe a touch difficult to sharpen on a flat stone. Easy peasy to sharpen on a Sharpmaker though.

No coincidence they are all Spydies, I assure you. ;)

The steels you are dealing with there are VG-10 and S30V. Not a HUGE amount of difference between them when it comes to sharpening. Get a Sharpmaker and you wont have any trouble, as Sal's system is designed to work with the knives he makes, whether plain edge or serrated. Works great on other knives too.

The Police 3 and Millie both have loooong handles. You want a 4 inch blade you gonna get a long handle. The Endura prolly has the best handle to blade ratio if that is important to you. However, I think its only available in FRN handles at present. There was a G-10 version out but it was a limited edition. Of the ones you have shortlisted I would vote Military. So have most of the people here. If you want advice, then listen to what they are saying.

I have the Spyderco Endura 4 G10. If you can find this (discontinued), get it. The quality and fit-n-finish on this folder is exceptional. Plus it is full flat grind like the FFG Endura w/ FRN handle but the foliage green G10 and non-nested liners make it a damn good looking knife.

I was going to recommend the Benchmade 710-D2 but you already have that.

If you want a really tough and beefy EDC and are not too concerned with weight, check out the Zero Tolerance ZT0300 and ZT0200. The are TANKS!!!. My ZT0300 will outlive my great great grandchildren and beyond.

When this comes up I always recommend....

Bro, it's definitly your skills, I have a 710 in D2 that will pop hairs as fast as my Gillette Trac II.

Gonna have to repeat most of the recommendations already given but:

Spyderco Military
Benchmade 710
Benchmade 805-1101 TSEK

Military or 710, whichever you like the look of better.
I am also going to throw out an oddball, but I love the Dalton Rung Sat. It is an auto, but I usually have the spring removed because then I can open and close it with one hand. It is a seriously awesome knife that not many people have tried.
