Not to highjack this thread but . . .
When ever you see a Wharncliffe do you ask the same question ? I have to assume you have and use Wharncliffes. Yes ?
All I can say is keep looking at the other photos of the same knife.

If that one makes you say "why" this one at this LINK > > > > will make you say "WHY ! ? !".
To which I must say : Because it makes me smile big time when I use it in a civilized manner".

(not good for prying paint cans open though)

Way to GO !
I think that blade shape could possibly please a few people here who like the Para2 and Tantos but find the Para point "too". Personally the point is why I buy the Para2 but I've been told I'm "different" and "special". I can't help what I like.

To be honest I have very recently considered doing the same (or similar) thing to another Ti Lite. Basically grind it full flat or there abouts and put an American Tanto point on it to once and for all find out what exactly all this Tanto business is about. :)

I like tantos. Goes back to my military days. Everyone had tantos. That was really my first knife experience. I didn't ever have a knife before then.

On this blade I messed up the tip with sloppy sharpening. Still useable but I about sharpened the fine-ness of the tip away. Saw that Spyderco was messing around with the idea of a tanto pm2, and it got my creative juices flowing.

Today if I feel up to it after work, I'll put the edge on the ground part. Waiting for a new pivot spacer since messing up the other one taking it apart, and I'll assemble it all and have the finished product.

Update...

Edge is on and after stropping it's now shaving sharp. 40° inclusive edge. I'm really liking how it turned out. Now just waiting for the pivot to come in the mail, then put it all together and start cutting stuff.

Wowbagger Wowbagger My favorite pocket knife is a Wharncliffe variation, but the blade is much more than half the length of the handle. I don't see why you would start with a stiletto style blade for this.

I’d like to see an assembled picture when you get it back together. I’m wondering if the scales will cover the new tip.

I hadn't even thought about that until your post. Luckily if it doesn't, I'll just have to shave down the spine and put on a new tip, but that will make the second edge shorter.

Id avoid using a grinder wheel, too much friction and chatter, no one grinds blades with a bench grinding wheel..

I do and have been for forty years+. At least you have proven by your statement that you have very little understanding of how to use power tools to sharpen or mod knife steels of any type.

Show me, don't tell me :D
