So this guy orders a big camp knife about a year ago. I finished it a little over a month ago. He said he liked the pictures, and was looking forward to getting it. He asked me to hold it for a few weeks while he collected the money. I emailed him a week ago to see how it was coming, and got no response. I emailed him five minutes ago, and the email bounced back to me.

So, my question is, how much longer, if any, do I wait to sell his knife to someone else? It would be a bummer if I sold it, and then he sent me an email saying he's ready to pay for it.

Thanks,
Phillip

I would exhaust all other options of contact (ie PM here, Phone, etc) before giving up. Of course if the email address you have is the only contact info he gave you then I would try one more time just to be sure his email address is indeed out. If that email also bounces back then I would Sell it.

A few weeks could mean anything from 3 to 8 weeks but if he has not contacted you to advise you of any new contact info then that negates waiting any longer IMO.

Good Luck

I'd try the above and then just sell it. If he makes contact again after it is sold just explain the position he put himself in and if you feel like offering him another knife add him in at the end of your list. If not understandable.

Well, I think I found this guy here on the forums, so I sent an email through BF, and also a PM. Hopefully he'll respond soon.

Hmm. Their PM box is full. That probably means they're not bothering to check their email either.:grumpy: I think I'll wait a day or two, then list the knife.
Snooze ya lose, I guess.

I agree with those who say you should exhaust every reasonable attempt to contact him. If you have an alternate e-mail account, I suggest using that in an attempt to contact him. Keep paper copies of all contact, including the bounced e-mails.

If, after all of this, you still have not had any contact from him, I would think you could sell it with a clean conscious.

Hi Phillip
I think 30 days is more than enough time considering he knew that the knife was already completed.
You were kind enough to give him time to arrange the payment and he then stalls you and disappears.....unacceptable.
Perhaps a "final notice" might be in order whereby you contact him by phone, fax and e-mail and tell him he has 7 days in which to complete the transaction failing which the knife will be sold.

I promise to pay for mine promptly:D

Phil, your work is outstanding so I would not give this guy more than 24 hours to respond. When he does not, just post some photos in the for sale section and odds are that it will sell in no time!!!!

I don't get it, when I have a knife made for me I am chomping at the bit to get it. I am a pain in butt as soon as the Maker tells me the knife is almost completed and usually E-mail him/her every 15 minutes and asking "done yet?" and then I ask; "it's been 15 minutes since the last E-mail, you done yet?":D
Even if "shit happens" happens and you cannot pay in full right away, a quick phone call to the Maker is all it takes to make the payment arrangement good for the both.

In cases like this, silence= idiot

At first I thought you meant me, but I've stopped bugging you Ira-style and we're both done.

Nope, it wasn't you, or any of my other "regulars". This guy had some personal problems last year, and apparently hasn't come out of them yet.
