Need some advice on how to proceed - resolved positively!

Good to know, you should not have any problems with a refund. It also gives your seller enough time to make it right. I really hope you end up with the grail instead of cash.

The story goes something like this: Seller baits the hook with a teaser price of $375. He's hoping the sharks will swarm and bid up the knife. Much to his dismay, only one bid is placed. The auction ends, giving that one bidder the item at the teaser price. The seller has no intention of letting the item go for this low a price and starts laying the groundwork upon which the refusal to complete the deal will be based.

Yeah if you paid what seemed like a too good to be true price this is a very credible story.

Personally, I would have replied to the seller something like this: "Sorry to hear that. Thanks for the heads up. Let me know when it ships. Thanks again." Not much more, maybe a little less. She said a couple of days and I would wait a couple of days and ask for an update and go from there.

As you know, you're not going to lose your money. The worst case is that you don't get that grail knife. Then you leave negative feedback for a non-perfoming seller and move on.

If things do go south, I agree that this will be the more likely reason:

[...] about 400ish feedback is when sellers run into the problems of taking on too much that will lead to them buying time with hardcore lies and such. [...]

In this case, the seller has a total of 434 feedbacks, but has received only 20 seller feedbacks in the last 10 years. Last feedback was over 4 years ago. In other words, a very infrequent seller of anything on that site, at least under that userid.

SaintlyBrees, I hope it works out for you.

Thanks to all for their feedback. I learned a lot from this thread and appreciate the community that makes up this forum.

The good news - I may have been worried needlessly. I got an email from the seller today stating that the item shipped this morning along with a tracking number. Now to see if the item arrives and if it is as advertised. If it is, I got one heck of a deal. When it arrives, I'll update this thread.

Thanks again folks! Being able to express a concern to like-minded folks and getting classy answers sure does help when worried about a potential problem. :)

Update as promised -

Things did indeed work out. I'm a bit embarrassed that I was concerned as it turns out that all worked out very well. They communicated as needed, shipped it out quickly considering their personal problems, and shipped the item as described. In fact, other folks who fail to make good on their deals because of personal issues should learn from the way these good folks handled this sale. They actually got it in the mail quickly, but the item got hung up in USPS due to weather which is why I just got it in today.

I'm thrilled and one of my grail knives is now in hand. :)
