Need some help deciding on Becker acquisition plan

I've been looking to get my first Becker for a while after first being drawn to the BK2. After much research, I scratched the 2 found 7,9,10 and 17 to be models I want. I want to start out with a good single option blade and was ready to get the 7, until I started looking at the 10. I really can't decide between these two, because the 9 and the 17 seem a perfect pair where as the 17 and the 10 or a 7 and 9 are much less compelling combo's.

I know that the 17 will be the second Becker I buy and I may scratch the 9 in favor of the Becker Kukri.

So I'm totally torn between the 7 and the 10. I like the blade shape better on the 7, but I think the 10 is a better size. Whichever one I get, I probably won't get the other, at least not for a very long time.

Then I will look to get a 17 and either the 9 or the Kukri. Trying to make it all fit and come up with the best three blade setup based on these choices. Thanks!

In all honesty, it doesn't matter. Before too long, you will own them all anywhos.

Warrior is right. When it starts getting crazy is when you're suddenly looking at how many multiples you have, but I might start with the 10 and work out from there.

My recommendation for u:

1 becker only: bk10
2 Becker combo: bk16 & bk9
3 Becker combo: bk14 (w/ accessory scales), bk10 & bk9

The bk7 and bk9 are very similar and the 9 is better imo so i would go w/ the bk10 first. Then get a 9. Just my .02. But yes, eventually you will have em all... So don't stress over it. PS: the bk14 is also a must for Edc.

This guy knows what he's talking about.

IMO, the 16 is a better knife than the 17, which mostly appeals to people used to stabby military blades. The 16 cuts circles around it, which is certainly what *I* want in a knife that size.

My bestest BK is still the 9. If I could just have one. 17 is one I would like too but just bought a 15 so IDK. I have 2 BK2's and I am going to trade at least one or both. Just too fat. The 9 is my favorite fixed knife period. Getting another one soon. I'd say get the 9 , 17, or 7 first.

My ideal combo these days is an 11, a 16 and a 9........ I suggest the 11or 16 first...... Thank you for showing such an interest in my blades.....

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of the 24 and 4 lately. If it came right down to it though, the 16, 24/14/11, 9 would be really, really hard to beat. Would be hard to imagine a scenario you couldn't manage to deal with.

Great input so far from everyone, which I really appreciate. It's also hard to beat place where you can also get input that fast from the actual designer of the blades!!! I've visited a lot of blade forums and the Becker forums here at bladeforums.com is by far the best group I've come across. I've already read back 150 pages worth of posts.

I can't be swayed off the 17 no matter what, it's a beautiful blade in my opinion and I simply want it. I have some scandi blades in the size range and I have some Scandi knives on my want list already so the 17 is a base I want to cross versus need. A Becker is next knife I'm buying though.

If youre stuck on the 17, get the 17, but also get a 4. Man Im telling you what that 4 will grow on you so fast.

Am I going to miss the extra length batoning wood the 7 provides with the 10?

No because the bk7 has a longer swedge than the bk10 so the meaty part of the spine is similar in length. I think the bk7 is more of a combat knife (thus its title). I think the extra 2 inches of the bk9 is well worth it and makes it a far better chopper and/ or batoner than the bk7. For an overall, I like the bk10 more than the bk7. But if I was goin to Iraq I would go with the bk7. Personally I think the bk14 and the bk9 are no brainers. The tough call is between the bk16 (or for u the bk17) or the bk10 since they are both great do all blades.

I don't think so. The extra length would be all swedge anyway.
I like the 10 much better than the 7.
In my opinion it's just a better all-arounder. ( Haha! Looks like tueller beat me to it!)

But honestly, you'll be happy with either. I've yet to purchase a Becker without getting that "WOW" factor from it. Great knives!!

If you love the 17 then get it! I think there is a lot to be said about using a knife that you really like because of the feel or look or whatever.

I don't have a 10, but every now and then I think I'd like to compare it to my 2 because it is thinner and lighter.

I'd imagine the 10 can do a lot by itself. I would also think that the 17 + 9 would do most if not all that my 16 + 9 can do.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the BK5 yet!! My personal favorite. But you should just plan on getting all of them... It is inevitable.

If you're struggling with the 7 vs 10 decision, the simple answer is get the 12. I won't try to tell you that the 12 and 17 is the perfect pair - I think I'd pair it with a 24 or an 11, honestly - but if you are set on the 17, who am I to disagree?

They are all such amazing utilitarian blades with relatively easy mods to make them your own it is really hard to go 'wrong' with any of them. If you don't imagine that you'll end up with them all eventually then I'd go with the 11, a tweener of your choosing and the 9. Once you've used a 9 you might reconsider your dilemma over a 7, 10, 12. Others may feel differently and that's great. To me what is most amazing about the whole Becker line up is that no matter which one you choose, you can feel good about using it because it's not too expensive. You can get a lifetime of hard use out of it. You can mod it to your heart's content and if you don't like what you end up with you can do it again. And when all is said and done, if you buy one that you don't really use, you can sell it here on bladeforums in a heartbeat for nearly what you paid for it. There is no wrong answer when it comes to choosing/buying a Becker blade. How many other decisions in life do you get to make when you can really say, no matter what I choose it's the right answer. Suweet. Thank you Mr. Becker for a tantalizing lineup of blades.

I was kind of leaning towards the 10, but the fact is I don't have a Bowie knife and the 7 is pretty cool one.

I'm surprised no one has suggested the lead pipe in the conservatory yet!

In all honesty I have the 16 and the 17. For the woods tasks I prefer the 16, for the city tasks I prefer the 17. Most times in the city I can use that little bit of a point for a lot of stuff (that a knife isn't necessarily intended to do but it does SO WELL!)

I'd also say if you're getting the 17, and you like how it and the 7 look together (yes it's awesome looking) then get the 7/17 combo. However plan to get a 5 as your next knife.
