Hey guys,

I need some help picking up an EDC bag.
I was looking around a while ago but never found anything, and ended up not having enough money anyways, but on to the questions.

I was looking at bags from maxpedition, in particular the Remora and the Pygmy Falcon II. I wont want any thing too big, actually the Pygmy is as big as I would go for sure.
Do you guys have any pictures on hand, some from personal photos, I've looked at everything thing on the net by now.:D

Anyways, what ever you can add would be great guys, thanks.

Stand by for pics ! i got a Remora! (note - the two knife pouches are HSGI, not Maxpedition)

Fonly- I'm assuming you're looking for a pack that will conceal a firarm seeing as that is one of the Max bags features. I preface this with saying that I don't recommend carrying a firearm that isn't on your body. With that said, there are times that I simply cannot have a firearm on my person due to the my clothing or activity. Just be extremely cautious.

I have the Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger. I liked the sling because its easy on and off with even a quick release off, a little more casual looking than a backpack (more unassuming I feel), and it was relatively easy to access and draw my firearm; which has taken a lot of practice to be smooth and not painfully slow (refer to first paragraph:rolleyes:).

What I don't like-
Slings suck with ANY amount of weight in them! With weight they are uncomfortable and don't function like a pack should with weight distribution. I didn't buy with heavy loads in mind, so it's not a big deal for me. I at most carry a jacket/sweatshirt, water, firearm, mags, flashlight, and knife 10% of time. Also, the space inside isn't real efficient. One jacket/sweatshirt pretty much takes up the space. I guess that's good considering it doesn't like much.

I vascilated between the sling and one of the smaller, square shaped hip type shoulder bags and settled on the sling. I've actually considered getting the shoulder type only because I believe that it 'may' be even faster to draw from.?

That's all I can think of for now. Hope this helps in your decision.

I'll include pictures in a bit.

I did see that Esav, but it didnt have any styles I was interested in. They were more duffle, and "other" styles.

What im looking for is something light, and built well. The remora is probably the best thing I've found so far, its a shame I couldn't find something a little bigger. The thing I'm looking for most is utilitarian, and well, sheeple friendly. I think in tan and that size will be perfect, I may just have to try it and see out it go's.

Fonly, have you looked at the Spec-Ops Brand Packrat? Lightweight and compact, large and small inside pockets, very durable. You need to order a shoulder strap separately though. Search for the best price, it varies a lot from MSRP. Less military-looking than Maxpedition's gear, especially if you remove the Spec-Ops label.

fon, my old grandma had what you need; she called it a " purse ".

Well if she carried a FAK, Fenix TK10, Benchmades, GPS and the rest of the crap she needed to keep your immature ass out of trouble than fine, call it what ever, I still need something. :D

Awesome, that is the style I was going for, I also thought about the Max FRN-1 pouch, but its price tag for purchase here in canada was kinda outrageous. As it is Im paying $150 for the remora.

Wish I could get shipping to the EU for one of those County comm BOB gen 5 bags!
That's the EDC pack I need.

Hey Fonly, exactly what do you want carried in your EDC bag? Do you want to carry a water bottle, bladder? Assuming no concealed firearm; camera? IFAK? Space blanket?

I would personally figure out exactly what you plan to carry and start from there. If your bag is too big, you'll end up filling it with extra stuff and then it becomes too cumbersome to actually use as an EDC bag. Do you want it for carry around town or outdoors (or both)? In some places the more tactical bags can draw unwanted attention. Sometimes a simple camera bag is a better option.

she used a broom on my dumb ass!!! but anyways any of you guys ever use a "tool " bag . seems to be a good canidate for all -purpose carry. home-despot $30-60 range.

None of the bags in the thread I started were duffel bags. That's what Esav was reffering to I think. Check out the Maratac xl he reviewed. Might be just what you need.

I know what I would like it in, FAK, fenix TK10, leatherman wave, BM 551, heavy mylar style blanket. Various little items, spare batteries, gps all the fun stuff, but not too much.
This is primaryly for edc, but I want something I can take on a hay hike as well, or just a day at the park you know. I ofter head out to a local dinosouar fossil site, its a nice site beautiful area.

But ya, thats kinda what im looking for, and I know if I get anything bigger I will load it full of crap, thats why I want to keep it small, only things I need.
I have a hard time packing things I need Vs. things I want.:o

Hey Fonly, this bag probably isn't what you are looking for but I did a review on my EDC bag back in march. The main reason I bought this bag is that it is designed to hold my SLR, but also serves as a laptop bag. The compartment at the bottom holds all my PSK stuff. As I use this bag for work, travel and my day walks it truly is an EDC bag. The laptop doesn't need to come with me on day walks, but I can shove a coat (and a few more knives) in the laptop compartment in those cases. Likewise, I now rarely bring my 300 mm zoom lens on day walks but can put other stuff like a small stove and bottle pot in its place.

Rock's philosphy is a solid one. Think about the stuff you want to carry. Think about what you will be carrying every day for school or work or other times. A true EDC bag needs to be at home and useful in all of those scenarios. I really like the maxpedition stuff and will probably get one of their bags one day (Condor II likely) but the military styling of it kind of clashes with my professional demeanor.

Good luck on your find!
