Need some Hog Help

Good stuff, thanks. Well, I got my HH stuck trying to get the cake out. Guess I need a bigger pipe.

Bummer. You might try tapping the sides with a ball peen hammer.

If you buy several different kinds of tobacco and you don't smoke them all that often (like me), here's a good tip.

Don't store the tobacco in original tins or in ziplock packs. It'll dry out and eventually smoke too fast and hot. Tobacco needs some moisture to smoke nicely.

Instead, try some small canning jars. I bought a number of slender pint sized jars. The canning lid forms an airtight seal and keeps in moisture.

Occasionally if the tobacco's too dry already, I'll throw in a small humidifying disk that adds some moisture back slowly. These are just little aluminum disks that have an absorbing medium inside. You dunk them under water for a while and then toss them in with your tobacco. As the moisture leaves the disk, it slowly permeates the tobacco.

Good tip on the canning jars. I usually just throw it away and start over. When I was younger and dumber, I would sneak some booze from my friends' parents' liquor cabinets (my folks were teetotalers) and re-wet the tobacco with that. Sherry was the predominant favorite. It really gave the smoke some teeth. I sometimes threw in some mexican vanilla just for good measure.

I've soaked many a 'baccy weed with my own favorite spirit. JD or GD usually.

do you soak it in the spirit and then let it dry some? or do you try to smoke it wet? sounds interesting I have diff scotches, cognac's and bourbons that tobacco might taste sweet in. OH I bought a gambit of cigars ranging in price from 4 bucks to 17 and I am gonna give them a try to see whats up, I hope the 17 dollar one is noticeably diff. Next is the pipe.

Well, when I say "soak," I don't mean soak. I really mean something more like "infuse." You get too much alcohol in there, and your pipe is going to look more like JWBirch's. I suppose you could put a ton of whisky in it and then let it dry out, but that just seems like a waste of good whisky to me.

Just sprinkle some bourbon, whisky, scotch, brandy, etc. in with the tobacco and shake it up. Smoke a bowl. If there's not enough "flavor" for you, try it again with another sprinkling or two. Another trick is to wet a paper towel with your spirit of choice and put it in a sealed container with the tobacco.

try spreading the tobacco in a cookie pan with out the cookies. using a spray bottle spray the tobacco till wet or very damp. let dry and bag or jar. mayers dark rum is good for this or irish whisky.

Good tip on the spritzer bottle, Skunk.

Couple of crappy pics of the tamper I made and some other stuff.

Nah, it's actually an inexpensive pipe. Graco (French made?) is the company name. Guy and Jackie said they found some "new" old stock of these pipes stashed away at a supplier/seller/something-or-another.

Anyway, they put them on their site, and I bought a smooth finish billiard from them just to try it out. Liked it so much that I bought two more billiards, that big honker of a Canadian in the pic, and a bent pipe. Same brand, same old stock. They came with little tags that had some sort of anniversary date in the 60's, I believe. Anyway, Guy's selling point was that they were made back then with nice grade Algerian briar. I have to admit... the three smooth finish billiards have some nice briar and grain patterns. Mainly, I just like the shapes/bowl sizes, and the way they smoke. Bonus was that they were only around $30 each.
