Gonna be adding the option of drop leg sheaths (and sheaths with webbing backers) in the coming days, and wanted to get some input. I'm gonna be offering a retention strap on the handle portion for those who require (or just want) 2 forms of retention.

My question is what type of fastener do you guys prefer on the strap? Button snap, velcro, something I haven't thought of yet? I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks.

I don't even a little bit prefer the handle clasp if the sheath itself is sufficient for retention, but if I do have them on there I don't like velcro. They're loud, and they can't easily be closed securely with one hand. Buttons are better in that regard.

Snap through velcro is cool. I have a pair of EMS pants with straps that are velcro, and also snap, it holds my shears very well.

Me either, but I know some people do. Paratroopers, I believe, are required to have two retention methods, though I hear duct tape is the common solution.

Ah, I hadn't thought of that. That may be perfect. Any seconds on this method?

kiahs, one of the things I thought was really ingenious about the RC-molle backing is the inclusion of a bit of stretch fabric attached to the backing that can be lifted and secured around the pommel of the knife. When not being used the fabric sits tight to the backing. When placed over top of the pommel you have a great security feature, qualifying it a jump-proof.

I like this, too. It's like the elegant version of having a piece of cord attached to the sheath you tie around the handle.

I have a couple of items with velcroed snaps. I don't like them at all -- if the velcro catches when the snap isn't lined up, you have to rip it loose and try again. :(

Another vote for snaps. I have slowly but surely modified all my Velcro strap sheaths to snaps. I am much happier now:) Velcro wears out and is just plain noisy.

One of the things I dislike about kydex is a tecklok digging in my hip. So you get a big  on the drop leg attachment from me.

Please post some pics once you figure it out!

Just a little feedback from a former paratrooper. I've used 100mph tape, but a simple piece of shock-cord and a cord lock is a simple secondary retention mechanism that can be removed when you don't need it. To be honest, I really just like kydex-retention and think it's enough. If you use a secondary retention method, make sure there is the option to remove or fold it out of the way...I hate trying to resheath a knife with one hand and have to dinker with something in the way like a secondary retention strap.

If you plan to add a leg strap, make sure it has stretch-fabric integrated...a good way to maintain position and still flex as you kneel or climb.

Now that's cool. I'd have to ask Jeff and Mike before implementing it though. I don't like cutting in on someone's uniqueness.

I hear ya. I hate Tek-Loks and Kydex loops. Don't care for drop leg either really. I aim to please though. I prefer a bit of webbing or paracord myself. Inverted on the belt or over the shoulder.

Good tip. I hadn't thought of that.

Snap if anything for me too. I'm pretty stoked to try out one of your sheaths with the webbing loops, should ride much more comfortably than a tek-lok or kydex loop.

I use those wide elastic boot blousers, that I add a snap to, to mount a knife/etc to my leg. Those things are great. Multi use gear is cool.

Snaps for sure. I can't stand velcro...in addition to the reasons already mentioned I find that it likes to catch on my clothing or lanyards.

Very cool. You guys are useful, no matter what Brian says. :p

Spooky, PM sent.

Just say no to velcro! Snaps are good but I'm interested in seeing the elastic thingy you guys are talking about.

Off topic but I saw on your website that you lost your pics in your gallery. I'm sure forum memebers would be glad to send you picks of the work you did for them. Spooky P already puts some up in the makers forum that are pretty high quality. Just a thought.:D

I found some of 'em, and the weather problem is long since over. Not to mention every other working page is outdated. I seriously need to get it fixed. I've planned some time for this weekend (again) to get it running the way it should. Here's hoping. :D

Snaps if you do a retention strap.

I would love to see something that would mate up teklok holes, something to convert a regular teklok kydex to a drop leg!!!
