Need suggestions for an edc knife

I would go with the Spyderco Delica 4 or the HK Mini Axis. Great durable knives w/ good steels.

I have the standard size HK Axis and it's probably one of my all time favorite knives. The Mini is the same knife just scaled down.

This. G-10, D2 steel and an Axis lock, all for under $100. You can't beat that.

Seconded. Or third-ed. These are very nice. They're around $85.
If you want something a bit stouter, you should be able to find an Enzo Birk on the used market for about $100.

Shit y'all. With all of these comments I'm having second thoughts and I'm about to start back at square one😂 I'll probably just close my eyes and point to choose. Thank you all for the suggestions and advice. Once I order I'll post what I ended up getting. I'm sure you're all really itching to know!

Since you did not specify, and no one asked the obvious ... what are your anticipated uses?

I would recommend a Cold Steel Mini Tuff Lite in the plain edge. Very small blade yet it still fills the hand. With the wharncliffe blade shape most people will be thinking you are using a box cutter instead of a "big pointy stabby knife" (that's what a few people say about some of my edc knives). Small and lightweight to carry wherever, I usually carry it in my watch pocket in my jeans or a shirt pocket. The steel is AUS8 and for the price of around 20 bucks its pretty good for me.

I would suggest a sodbuster or trapper being how you are in Texas. But for a cool little tiny knife a leek, delica, Skyline or heck even a tre or dpx heat would serve you well. The list could go on forever lol.

Basically for what a knife does best, cutting things! Lol I don't plan on needing a blade for "self defense". Mainly just a decent knife that could open boxes, mail, or whatever else. I would get a multitool or a Swiss Army knife but my dad will be sending me my leatherman wave soon. "Now PapaDragon," you may ask, "why would you need another knife besides a SAK or multitool?" To be honest, my wave could handle everything a normal folder can do plus obviously a lot more. But my reasons that I don't want to carry it are that it's not something I like carrying around and I just really want a new tool/toy. I know I know, not the most logical answer. I also thought it'd be cool if I got a unique knife (a chive or a shallot in Damascus, for example) that makes people turn a curious eye. Kinda bring up knife conversations, ya know? And multitools aren't the best appealer haha

In that case, (even though you'll dismiss it) I'd suggest something along the lines of a Rough Rider RR915 Stoneworx large stockman. Clip point main, sheepsfoot and spey secondary blades.
Fluted nickel silver bolsters. It looks reminiscent of something David and Brian Yellowhorse produce. It is a great conversation starter, and "sheeple" friendly, to boot.
(also costs under $20, has fit and finish comparable to much more expensive knives, and Rough Rider are consistently among the sharpest knives out of the box.)

The best suggestion might be the first response of the thread. The lightweight Native 5.

Get yourself something cheap for now. Pick up your good knife after you are finished with AIT and have arrived at your first duty station. That way you have a user knife to loan out and your good knife does not get trashed. Besides, you don't really know if all the people at AIT are trustworthy. Trust me. When I was in AIT, someone lifted my folder. I was pissed.

BTW, what MOS?

CRKT squid, kabar mini dozier, Ontario rat2

Fox/Boker Anso zero, Buck small Vantage Pro (or avid or select), CRKT small ripple

Mini Griptilian, H&K mini axis, Cold Steel mini recon/mini lawman, Kizer ki3411/ki3416

OR just get a SAK or Boker Tech Tool to hold you over for now.

*sigh* lol yeah my original plan was to get a cheap knife but I wanted something to show off I guess.

Also, I'm a 68w, healthcare specialist, aka a medic

Nothing wrong at all with wanting a cool good knife to use and show off a bit. If we're all honest with ourselves, we could probably all get by in life with nothing more than a Swiss Army knife for 99.99% of the tasks we face. But where is the fun in that? Most people on this forum collect knives and have a lot of them. It's fun, simple as that.

If you have the desire and funds to buy a knife just because, go for it. We all do it.

That being said, I would still go for a Delica 4 or HK Mini Axis.....:D

My Eros has been an absolutely incredible EDC. It's defied my expectations and displaced more expensive, “better” knives as my daily companion. It's compact and light, with good flipping action.

It's not meant for heavy work; but if you are looking for an affordable, handsome, light, compact EDC folder, the Eros might just fit the bill.

A wharncliffe blade shape like a gayle Bradley air would be great for precision cutting tasks!

So a buddy of mine sent a text to me and said to check out the cold steel counter point II. I don't think I've ever really gotten a good look at these and I'm seeing that cold steel is using new material for their blades instead of Aus 8. I like the design of the blade and I've owned/enjoyed multiple cold steels that have been good quality (voyager tanto, voyager clip point, recon, ti lite, and bushman.) Would picking one of these up be worth it or would that be a huge mistake?

Sincerely, guy who is as indecisive as a scared guppy.

I have a code 4 in the ctsxhp steel and I'd say it's a great buy for the price. I can't speak personally for any other cold steel model.
