Recommendation? Need the lightest folding knife with a gut hook?

If this is a deer hunt: you can field dress, and break down one with a Mini-Bugout
(1.5 oz)

I gotcha on the ultralight. Now I understand where you are coming from.
Good Luck and be careful. 👍🍻

That would’ve been awesome if it had a gut hook? I’ve already got compact knives that look just like the bug out but no gutter hook?

This is for gutting a deer; the hook isn't necessary...

Agreed.

Kevin never really mentioned why the requirement for a gut hook? I have field dressed dozens (hundreds?) of deer with multiple different knives, and never once said, "Jeez, I wish this knife had a gut hook."

Cleaning out a deer isn't brain surgery... you just keep cutting connective tissue, and yanking stuff out. 😁 👍

Well, I probably gutted dozens without the gut hook too. Not that it matters, but I have a disability and having that Gut hook has allowed me to continue to process my own deer. It’s a safety issue more than anything, otherwise I just use one of my other lightweight knives. Hope that helps.

Understood and I appreciate the explanation. You open yourself up to a gazillion MUCH lighter knives if you didn't need the gut hook, however.

That gut hook looks more like it was designed for cleaning out birds...

Older Schrade has a plastic handles model with a guthook, I’ll try and find the model. I have one but I don’t remember what they call it

Check out the Benchmade 5w, not a folder, but a dedicated hook. Has served us well, needing still a folder or fixed blade separately. I know it's not exactly what you are looking for, but just one option. I keep mine attached to a backpack, and it's super light.

Not sure it’s what you’re looking for as it’s more for birds, but I’ve got an old Remington bullet knife (not sure the year, it’s USA made, delrin handles to look like stag, 80s is my guess) that has a gut hook and a choke tube wrench, cool little knife my dad gave me not too long ago! It’s super light and you might be able to snag one on eBay or something.

If you’ve got a scale, I’d love to hear what it weighs, In the meantime I’ll look on eBay see if I can find it. Thanks

Np, it’s 2.9 oz. Really it’s for birds (and not a bullet knife, had that part wrong) so not sure it’s what you’re after but I’d not seen this config before my dad gave it to me recently so I thought worth sharing! No clue how hard it is to find.
