I'm looking for something that is very lightweight and disappears in my hand. 2-3 inch blade. Will be used as a backup to my primary edc, or if I need to cut something in public and don't want to raise eyebrows. I was looking at the crkt minimalist (wharncliffe or "Bowie") but I'm really not too excited about the 5cr13mov steel. I was also looking at the Spyderco kiwi. Probably not the kiwi 4, as I can't justify spending over $100 on such a small blade. That's just me though.

I'm pretty firm about the handle, on both of the knives I mentioned, the handle just vanishes in the hand, thanks to the finger choils and thinness of the handle.

As for steel, it doesn't have to be exotic. A pocket clip would be nice but isn't necessary. A wharncliffe would be ideal, again not a deal breaker.

I've looked around and couldn't find anything else that really fit my specifications.

Recap: looking for a knife that disappears in the hand, something small to use as a secondary edc, or to use in very public places. Looking for thin, narrow and small. Not interested in the Spyderco grasshopper or the other ones in that category.

Thank you

I don't do sub 3" knives much, but I do have a Spyderco Dragonfly (2.3" vg10) and a Buck Quickfire (2.75" 420hc) coming, should arrive tomorrow, if you have any interest in either I'll let you know what I think when they arrive...

Also, have you considered a traditional style? Completely in intimidating; cold steel lucky gives you a tradional style with a great steel, fully serrated and plain edge blade, cf scales, and a deep carry clip...

I'm not a big fan of traditional style knives. The only one I have is a buck 110 and that's only because it's a buck 110 haha. I barely use it.

I also just looked at TOPS's line. And saw a few that caught my eye:
-Wolf Pup
-ALRT
-Ferret

You might want to check out the Kershaw Leek, Scallion, and Chive.

Also, I know you said you would not want to spend over $100, but the DPX H.E.A.T is a pretty awesome beefy little titanium frame lock with a 2.5 inch D2 blade.

Question, I have the DPX Gear HEFT 4 fixed blade..how come the folders are more expensive than the fixed blades?

If you want a small fixed blade, check out the Becker BK13 Remora BK13CP. They make them out of 1095 CV now instead of 440A.

I really like the Cold Steel Mini Tuff Lite. If I'm allowed to post links to my own youtube vids I'll link to the review I did of it a couple years ago putting it up against a Boker Plus Subcom Titan (another excellent choice that's still in production) and a Spyderco Meerkat. The Mini Tuff Lite is superb for your desires, but if you want something similar and higher end Knife Center has the Spyderco Equilibrium on clearance for $60.

Fixed blades are easier and quicker the produce than folders. Also, the folders have more parts, and tend to use more expensive materials, like titanium.

What about a Spyderco Chaparral? Very thin, lightweight, great materials, and can be found for about $100.

The Spydie GB Air would also be a phenomenal choice if you felt like spending a little more.

5.11 Wharn For Duty; cheap, thin, light, and durable. I know people look down on their knives, but I have several and I have never had a problem! Plus, they have a lifetime warranty if you buy from them or an authorized dealer; I've dealt with their customer service...best experience I've had with any company!

How about something in titanium with a carbide edge?

Spyderco Air, is small, unobtrusive, and, can be discreetly deployed. It's a moderately higher quality knife and reasonably priced. It checks all your boxes. Fwiw, I often EDC a DPx HEAT. I wouldn't reco it to you. It's a fat, heavy little monster, but it serves my purpose. Horses for courses buddy.

Oops, just realized this is over your budget. Sorry! - Under $100.00? (Lol) Too many choices. You'll find something...

You might honestly consider a Pacific Handy Box Cutter or something similar. Buy some blades with carbide edges and you'll get a huge boost in edge retention.

Cant go wrong with a spyderco dragonfly. Definitely disappears in hand and your left with a blade with tons of control.

If your looking for a small fixed blade go custom. Many great small blades can be found at some very reasonable prices in our KnifeMakers Market.

For a small folder I'll give the vote to the Dragonfly. Awsome little blade while being surprisingly comfortable in hand.
