ok i finished reading the entire link Midnight Flyer--point taken--thanks-marekz
I am not a tree hugger, or any thing of the sort. I don't mind burning up resources as long as it is done responsibly. I prefer to leave the limited resource materials we have left alone.
To me, sneaking in at night and stealing wood is not only thievery, but it ranks along with the game poaching we have around here on one hand. Illegal, irresponsible, and selfish.
On the other hand, it reminds me of the guys in the 60s and 70s, that used to shoot some of the local owls and hawks so they could make "bad ass"roach clips out of their feet. They shot the bird, chopped off their feet, then tossed the dismembered bird away.
I like for things to be left alone. When hiking in California once, we took a guided tour of what "campers" had done to the park we were in. They had broken off large branches from pine trees to steal the football sized pine cones. (BTW, illegal). They simply threw hooks on ropes into the trees and pulled the branches off those old trees. Some were a very, very old. They were torn up so someone could try to sneak a pine cone out of the park when no one was watching.
We saw where folks had whittled off chunks and tried to break branches off the giant redwoods. It had gotten so bad, they park didn't allow you off the tram except when the tour was over as so many people had cut or broken off "just a little piece" of those ancient trees.
I am sure the ironwood being sold here is legal and was harvested under supervision. Great! That's the way it's supposed to be. But a thief in the night?? Nahhh.
