Need to get your Schrade knife fixed?

I *almost* registered for a free knife, but after I saw all of the information that they wanted, I passed. A free knife is great, but I've never gotten one...and "free," in this case, means receiving a free knife in exchange for giving away all of the information necessary for them to sell your purchasing profile anywhere they like.

You are a gentleman of few words, LT. I'll aspire to do better. :) Maybe some people don't get enough junk mail. I, for one, think that I already get too much. ;)

From their website (the one proudly displaying the American flag and the logo " The Knives That Help Build America":

TO RECEIVE A FREE KNIFE, go to Contact us, fill out THE NECESSARY INFORMATION, YOUR FREE KNIFE WILL BE SHIPPED WITHIN 24 HOURS.Colonial knife, a division of CCI, Inc. has been manufacturing American made pocket and sport knives for nearly half a century in Providence Rhode Island.
I guess the 24 hour ship time was a limited time offer. I ordered mine 19 days ago. Anyone received theirs yet?

Must be busy fixing all the Schrades!
Nope, aint got mine either.

Rick e-mailed me last night to bring me up to date on my order for a sample knife:

"We have fixed the problem on our web site and will get a knife out to you as soon as all of the forms are received.
Rick"

There was no mention of a shipping or processing fee however.

I'm thinking that they got an overwhelming response to their Free Knife extravaganza.

"To receive your free knife, include ($7.50 for postage and handling) please go to the CONTACT US section located to the left and click on it. Fill out the necessary information. Within 24 hours your free knife will be mailed to you."

10 more days and still no free knife. That is 29 days now.

Any comments on these knives would be greatly appreciated. Colonial tells me they want to know everything I hear about thier knives, the good and the bad. The only way they can improve themselves is by feedback of customers, can't fix something if you don't know it's broken.

Wasn't what I expected. It is a free knife just thought it might have a Colonial stamp on it. Smooth action. Good liner lock.

Same here. I was expecting a knife that at least had a company name on it. I mean, if you have a product you're proud of, you put your name on it, right? The only name on it was the country of origin. Don't get me wrong, what Irv said was true. It opened easily with one hand via the ambidextrous thumb studs and seemed to lock in place firmly. There was very little side to side play in the blade when open.

I guess my only real disapointment was in my own expectations of Colonial putting something in my hands comparable to a Schrade. And maybe it was indeed comparable to some of the last Schrades I irreverently refer to as "space debris". And perhaps I am being unfair to those too, since I own none.

I don't know that I would hand out a nice stockman like it was bubblegum if I were in their shoes either, but this one really does not induce me to try their knives. But then again, I am just an old opinionated codger.

I was thinking of re doing the handles and putting a Schrade blade similar to the Beast's (47OT) on the knife.

I recieved mine today also and its just like the one in Irv's picture. I will give credit where credit is due: The company promised to give me a free knife and kept they're word, Thank you for that.

That being said, I was somewhat disappointed that its not a Colonial product in any way that I can see. If Colonial wants me to consider purchasing their products in the future based on this sample, then I'll have to pass unless I run into a display somewhere that I can handle a bunch. There are just to many quality knives out there for me to spend my hard earned money on to be bothered wondering if I'm going to get a Colonial stamped Rough Rider if I order one.

The knife itself isn't the worst chinese made knife I've seen, lockup is good and the blade is centered in the handle well. Even the liner lock is centered on the tang good. Its a loaner/beater at best, but I'll probably try to sell it for a few bucks to put towards something nicer. I'd personally like to hear from someone from Colonial on this. Dave if you read this, please let the guy in charge at Colonial know that there is a outlet to a large number of knife buyers here at BF and that his comments would be appreciated. We've given some feedback and a response would be in order.

Just another note.
There was no material about Colonial in the package at all. In fact I didn't recognize what or whom sent me the knife for a few minutes. (C.R.S.) No copy of the current catalog, no note from the company hopeing we enjoy the freebie and explaining how it was the low end of the line and something they wanted to try out and wanted our comments. Hell anything would have been a better marketing tool than what was done. A lost marketing leader it was!
I guess thats my $0.04 for the night

Got my Colonial knife, and catalog/cut sheets, as well.....

I think...I know... I was expecting an American made knife, based on the website. They did deliver a free knife, so I'll not be a jerk and badmouth their efforts, but rather I'll say thank you for a free knife.

But, as input to David to share with Colonial....I would've been much happier with an inexpensive (less than $2 at SMKW) keychain/novelty type knife made in the U.S.A.

Just my $.02.
