Needing A Good Folder - S30V / ~$150

The only issue I kind-of have with the Sage 2 is the clip. Is the wire clip sturdy enough for this chunky knife??

Not an issue for all but some folks (and I am not suggesting any personal biases) care that the Sage II is it is made in Taiwan. Again, not looking to start a war on this point, just commenting in case it matters to the OP.

I really like the Para 2. Also, the previously mentioned Kulgera is a great knife with an Axis lock. The Axis lock is one of the best locks made, easy to open and close with a rock solid lock-up. Lots of great options with your criteria, so it really comes down to personal preferences. Nothing wrong with the Mini-Dejavoo that you are considering either.

Regarding the clip on the Sage II, it is my favorite. I have the clip on the Sage II and three versions of the Caly 3 (Carbon Fiber, serrated, and plain edge G-10) and it is strong yet allows the knife to slip more easily in and out of the pocket. It is more durable than you may think from just looking at it.

Amazing...thanks for all the input! It was more than I expected, and much appreciated.

I looked at all the knives suggested, and the two that stick out to me are both Spydercos. I really still like the Sage 2 and the Paramilitary 2. Once I saw the design and build of these knives (and watched a few youtube videos), I think I will go with one of these two.

However I couldn't find a place to buy the Paramilitary 2 yet, so I may have to wait a while if I decide on that one.

For those of you that chose one over the other, what made you prefer the one you chose?

Paramilitary 2 isnt out just yet. I am also interested. I am not sure how it locks compared to the old one but I think they are still both compression. More so I am not very familiar with Compression Locks and how the hold up or compare with Liner, Axis or even the spine lock. Any info would be appreciated. I have handled many spydercos lately and to be honest I am not 100% in love with them. The throw to open is longer than I expected. I do like the material they use..g10 and S30V as well as the build quality. But the Design is my many dislike. I just cant warm up to the look and the typical blade style. Seems like a great slicer, that being the primary thing it does. Could be wrong but that is because I am yet to spend much time with one.

In no particular order- I have all of these and can recommend them as all great quality-
My favorite- Benchmade Mini Griptilian/Ritter S30V
Zero Tolerance 0350
Buck Vantage
Buck Paradigm (I do not own this one)
Bradley Alias
Kershaw Blur
Those are ALL great knives and reasonable in price, most well under $150

Definitely look into the ZT0350 and also take a look at alot of those spydercos that the rest have mentioned; all are great knives for the price.

Para 2 is out. The problem is that almost every store has sold out of the initial shipment. More are coming but not any time soon and probably not enough to meet demand. I'm sure the folks in Golden are working hard.

Compression lock design is strong and very highly rated. The ergos are a bit tricky for someone trying out the compression lock for the first time. At least it was for me. :D

A big change in the new Para 2 is the use of a pivot bushing. It's designed so that the blade is not effected by how tight the pivot screws are tightened. It does introduce a bit of looseness compared to a tightened conventional pivot. I have 9 Spyderco knives that use this pivot bushing and none of them has too much play. Just enough to make the pivot buttery smooth.

I also have the Sages 1 and 2 and I consider them both top notch. The CF Sage 1 is my favorite knife to carry.

I would just get the sage 2 now and get the para 2 later because they are both great knives. The sage 2 is easily in my top 3 of spydercos.

Another vote for the Para2. I have the itch to buy something new, but I am going to wait for the Para as it is everything I want in a folder.

Do you sharpen your own knives? I find the recurve blade on the ZT350 a major pain to sharpen. Spydercos usually have easy to sharpen blade shapes. Just something to think about.
