Needing a new EDC, gentlemans folder type

Check out the Spyderco Walker Almite or the Bladetech mouse. I often carry the Walker. It carries well in the pocket but rides too high when clipped to a pocket.

How about a Buck Mayo, a little higher then quoted price range or a leek. The s30v version is out there at around $80. Great small package that is not to threatening

Ok, I am checking all these knives out.

Would love a Mnandi, to expensive.

Really like the BM 440 Opportunist. Good weight, excellent steel, small size in relation to blade length and good looking. (I found it for $90)

Al Mar Ultra light and Classic Hawk. When compared to the BM 440, Seems like I am getting more knife, better look (to my eye) for the price. ($55 or the ultralight and 110-150 for classic with style)

Nakamura. To heavy, to big. Good looking though(dont remeber the price)

Splinter. Price is cheaper than BM 440, but steel, size, weight and style go to the Benchmade (price if found $55-65 for the non wood)

Kopa. Just doesnt look right to me. Not a big fan of Sypderco. Although Kopa and Kiwi are the closest I have come to liking one of their knives.

Fallkniven u2. Hell of a knife it seems. Priced very well for the package I think. I found it for about $45-55. At that price point for the steel, it seems very nice. Style isn't to bad, but not up to the BM 440.

Hmm, that Fallkniven u2 has me thinking. Excellent suggestion!

Edit: While the open blade of BM is 2.99 inches and the U2 is 2.519 inches, the closed size is 3.34 for BM and 3.38 for U2. Based on that I would lean towards BM440 cause of "pocket feel"

I was going to suggest the Splinter before I read your entire post. The quince wood handle is very nice. I took mine out over the weekend and really enjoyed using it for mundane tasks, like opening an envelope, cutting up some rags, and slicing the end off my finger ;). Seriously, it is a great folder and is not intimidating at all.

I just got a BM943. It is really light and works great. If you want something a little thinner, then check out Microtech's Mini SOCOM Elite. It is super thin and lightweight.

Both of these knives have blades that are about 3.4" or so. I think both also use 154CM steel, and you shold be able to find them online for about $130 or so...

The Brückmann slippies mentioned by Bob W are definitely worth a try!

(Not only `cause I bought and offer for sale some unused examples in v e r y good conditions! ;) :D )

Regards,
Ludi

I have a BM 440 and I love it! Light weight, slim design and a useful blade shape in a good looking handle. A total package in my book.

Another one to consider is a Buck 532, a very classy looking knife. The 532 has been discontinued but there are always a few floating around. Most of them were 420C steel, but you can still find some with BG-42 steel floating around at reasonable prices. This is mine with redwood, nickel silver and a BG-42 blade.

Another vote for the Spyderco Centofante 3 here. Modern knife, but very stylish, gentleman-esque. And it's a slicer.

If you like BenchMade look no further than the new HK 14210. It is my first choice in a gents folder size knife with class, and a heavy duty lock that is stronger than most heavy duty folders being sold outside of an axis locker.

I like my Spyderco Kiwi and my William Henry.

Another option is a custom slipjoint or lockback by W.C. Davis or Raymond Cover. Great knives and incredible fit & finish. Price is around the $200 range though.

More votes for:
BM 921, 940 & 960.
Spyderco Calypso & Centofante.

Just see which the the most comfortablefor you! All are quality knives and different price points.

My three knives I rotate as my edc gentleman's knife are:
Mnandi African Blackwood
William Henry Ironwood T 10
Al Mar Hawk Cocobolo.
All three are are carried in the William Henry Clip Case.
All are excellent knives.
Al Mar is the least expensive.
