So when I member agrees to buy an item. But then backs out at the last minute... is this something you leave negative feedback for?

What if you lost perspective buyers? Say the people that asked for 2nds and 3rds moved on as you were wasting your time with the bum that agreed to buy but backed out.

I believe the policy is "no deal, no feedback". Roughly.

That's the general consensus as of now. If you wanted to though you could start a thread here to let others know. As for losing out on other buyers unfortunately is just part of dealing on the Internet.

Well darn. I guess I'm just used to members around here being honest and it bothers me when I run into the ones that aren't.

It bothers most of us but things can and do happen. Like rycen said, you can always start a thread in this forum if you think someone is flaking on deals.

"If you can't take a little bloody nose maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross, but it's not for the timid."

Just noticed your quote. Seems kinda apropos in this case........:D

I know how you feel. It's happened to me. Fortunately one of the people who had seconds was still interested.

I think flaking out on a deal is really low class. If I say I'll take it, Then I just gave you my word and I plan on keeping it. Barring a real emergency there's no good reason to pull that kind of thing.

Fortunately the overwhelming majority of the people here on BFC are stand up guy's & gal's...

Not worried about the bloody nose. I can handle that part. I've just always tried to honor my agreements and keep my word around here. Bothers me to see members not doing the same. I guess some folks just don't have any integrity.

Agreed.

I've had it happen and just let it roll and make sure I don't do business with that person again. I had a guy who agreed to take it, paid and then asked later that night if he could back out since an emergency came up. I graciously agreed and sent the funds back, knife wasn't even shipped yet so no big deal.. except that he turned around later that night and bought another knife.. I sent him a polite message explaining that is not how business is conducted around here and a man's word is his bond. I told him that kind of behavior will probably have him run off of BF eventually. He apologized and said it was stupid move, I just let it go and figured it was best I didn't do business with him anyway. Sometimes the best deal is not doing the deal...you're probably better off.

Probably wouldn't accomplish anything. The guy would just apologize to save cred and do it again anyway. People like that don't see the problem with being dishonest and wasting people's time.

One thing I have learned is to NEVER mark something SOLD until deal is completely done. Any other interested parties can be told that a deal is pending and he/she can be advised if it does/doesn't go through. Very little
risk of losing buyer that way. When you mark SOLD/Sale Pending too early, that can certainly drive off buyers.

You might go ahead and relist the knife for sale. If people called 2nd or 3rd to purchase it I bet you can line up another buyer.

He can't. At least not yet. Per the rules you have to wait two weeks to re-list a sales thread.

Only thing he has going in his favor is it's in the fixed blade section. If it were a folder for sale it would be on page 2 or 3 by the end of the day...

Another thing that really hurts you when someone flakes on you.

That's true... you get robbed of that initial listing heat.
