Neglected Skills

Skin flute?... nooo.... I am a bit of a wiz on "hairy bag pipe"... I prefer it to the skin flute cause its got more bawlz.

mmmmnh, salty....

I remember asking on another forum if anyone was musically talented. I'll never forget one of the replies:

"I'm a dummer. I mean a drummer. I mean a concussionist. I mean a percussionist...I mean I like to hit things with stuff." :D

Thats pretty sweet man. What happen to the bass pedal?

Are you going to be like Brian and Bear and leave the cutlery world for music (and get a life like they did?!) :P

I play the djembe, I've tried drum sets like that but I get too dyslexic. I can do a didj and the djembe at the same time but if I get on someone's drum set it sounds like someone poured a 50 gallon drum of hyperactive puppies on the set. Just noise, and then cops. sigh.

sounds good dude, you have a very cool sounding kit
but I think you need an accompaniment, perhaps an fellow on the upright bass ...hmmmmm

I love that Rick and I carry on our own little special discussion and the proper discussion carries on around us. ;)

Like the whole board is saying 'Yes, they are a little touched - but we love them anyway.'

That's great Rick, you got keep up the chops. I don't have any videos but maybe I can upload a few sound files from a live recording made at the Coral Gables Blues Fest about 10 years ago.

Some friends snapped these pictures a month or two back, I brough the cigar box bass I made up to Tobacco Road to show my two buddies and wound up sitting in with them, Albert Castiglia, nominated this year for Blues Song of the year, and Graham Drout of Iko Iko, for two of their three sets. What a blast. The cigarbox bass worked great, sounds like an upright :)

That is so cool, Hushnel... so is it a transducer(sp?) type of pickup in there?.... no sound holes?... great pics.... makes me wanna make a cigar box snare drum for brushes.

This whole youtube thing has given me the inspiration to seriously woodshed my chops again. An old friend has already asked me to do some studio work for a project of his. There is a jam night at a bar that I get out to once in a while.... I'll have to make it a regular event now.

Jimi..... we gotta get together..... soon!

TF..... I think the other members pretty much ignore our little "engagements", now... they accept the fact that at least 4-5 of our posts will be totally innapropriate to the discussion.

Yep K&K bass transducers placed under the bridge, no F holes, FEEDBACK!, but it is a functioning cigar box with a few Cohibas and maybe a ham sandwich stuffed inside :o)

The inlays are a bit hard to see but I have two mother of pearl trucker mudflap girls on the upper bout of the cigar box and a pole dancer in MOP on the headstock overlay, because I'm all fancy, artistic and stuff :)
