I'm posting this here rather than in the review section because I have not yet had enough time to use my new Blackwood talonite Neck knife. I just got it in the mail this afternoon. When I put it thru its paces I may post a review. But for now, let me just say this. YAHOOO!
This is a very nice piece of work! It looks very much like the first knife shown and described on Neil's site here: http://www.geocities.com/Eureka/Meeting/5520/page2.HTML
The picture does not show the details of the top edge which has a very interesting profile, narrowed in the centre and elegantly curved. The blade has a little more belly than shown and to my eyes the grinds are perfect. I was afraid the talonite would not be very attractive and, much more important, perhaps not as sharp as I like. Wrong. The finish is first rate and this is one sharp blade! The scales are also quite nice with a hard white material between the scales and the tang. The workmanship is such that the skeletonising holes are beautifully executed with the pins perfectly flush and the white middle layer showing quite nicely.
The knife is quite heavy for its size, which I guess is a characteristic of talonite. I like that very much but it does reinforce the wisdom of those holes! Neil provided two sheaths: one for neck and one for belt carry. These are not slap dash things but instead are very solid, well executed sheaths that fit perfectly.
From order and design to delivery was on the order of 30 days - lightning fast for a knife like this, as far as I'm concerned. The price was also very fair. But I confess I do have one regret. I should have ordered more!
Count me one very happy customer. Now let's see what talonite can do!

Perhaps I should also mention, particularly for the Canucks, that the knife crossed the border very quickly and with a minimum of fuss and hassle. Up here, that's seldom the case, so this was a very nice change

HJK,
I'm glad you recieved the knife! That was definately a record setting trip to Canada!!
I actually enjoy working with Talonite. Going right from the grinder to finishing with out heat treat still takes some getting used too.
I just picked up photos last night and I think I have a good one of THAT knife. I will go through the website upload thing and post it here ASAP.
It was a pleasure doing business with you.
Neil
