Never be organized or prepared - too dangerous! (pics)

William M. - It's not an M1a. It's a Norinco M14s, which, if you check with Different (if you know M14s you'll know who I mean!) is not an M1a, it'a an M14. I have a couple here and four more in the mail. What can I say? I like M14s, and for $400 you really can't go wrong. I did paint the stock myself...I like the USGI fiberglass stocks so that's what I mostly have. I will probably throw a Boyd's laminate on one of the next ones to arrive, and possibly a US walnut stock on another. If you like this one, then wait until I get one of the others back from the shop (it will be a while.) It's REALLY, REALLY nice.

This spot was up by Spences Bridge. We were going to drive in to Upper Hat Creek but apparently no one has made it in yet this year, so trying in the wagon would have been a little slow.

The knife is a Mora blade. I will give you a look in another thread that I guess I should post about now. Let me dig out the pics...

...All I need now is the hot girlfriend and a dog and my life will be complete.

Start with the dog. Easier to find a good one and they tend to last longer :D

Before I get killed for saying that, let me say I have no dog, but I do have a fantastic girlfriend :)

Well yeah, it's kind of expected to give specs and a close-up of your knife! BTW sorry about your sleeping bag... your story is a reminder to us all, Mr. Murphy has quite a sense of "humor"... glad all ended well.

Nice pictures! I'm going out for a 3-day excursion tomorrow morning, hopefully I'll have better luck with my fire...

Hey, no biggie. I paid $40 for it, I don't know how many years ago. It was getting a little less "lofty" anyway.

Thanks for the welcome, have spent plenty of time at your site scanning through the lists of what you have in stock for making sheaths out of. Love your stuff, looks awesome.

Hey

misanthropist..

Thanks much for the kind words..:)

That's a beautiful area....

That tree by the way is a Dogwood...

Can't you tell by the bark ?? :)

OH! No, I figured someone would recognize the bark, though.

Give me conifers and I'm your man but the broadleaves...mmm...there's that one on the flag, and there's oak trees...ummm...

I grew up in all coniferous forests, so I could tell you all about the softwoods, from the cones to the smell to how hot it burns and how well it splits, but I never even realized dogwood would become a tree. The dogwood I am (vaguely) familiar with looks more like that close shrub in the second to last pic - in fact isn't that what it is? It seems to get eaten by deer and elk. Anyway, thanks for the tree help!

EDIT: it's especially embarassing as the dogwood is the official flower of my home province!

The gun is a Norinco. These are prohibited in the US (unfortunately you guys can't get them due to an executive order under Clinton - I don't know the details but none of the new generation of Norks can be brought in to your country.)

Up here they are very common. The receiver is forged and in spec, unlike the Springfields. The op rods are very tough. They are a very well built gun - cosmetically worse than the SA stuff, but functionally better.

They cost $400 each here. Consequently they are owned by every male over the age of three. Canada - more heavily armed than you would expect!

There are basically three nice things about the Canadian gun situation:

1. the Nork M14s
2. Short barreled shotguns are non-restricted guns and you can get them CHEEP
3. if you have an AR15, and you want a short barrel on it, no problem. You see 16 inchers...and 11 inchers...and 7.5 inchers...I think that's the shortest I've seen.

Other than that it's not all that great for guns here. Although many states have it worse!

Oh, also - more pics of the gf can always be found at canadiangunslingers.com.

Norinco! I thought so. Legend has it that the U.S.A. machine tools for M14 manufacture were first shipped to Taiwan, and then -- later -- over to Red China...and that these are the machine tools from which the Norinco M1A1's are manufactured. Anyone know if this is true or urban legend? $400.00??? Sheesh! The only thing sweeter than that deal is your girlfriend and I respectfully request that you post more pictures of her. Peace. Q out.

I suspect it's urban legend but I don't really know.

I'll tell you what: I just bought a Scrapyard Guard. When it gets here, I'll post pics of the girl and the knife, how's that?

Can you adopt me as your long lost brother...really man...I need to get up there and see the "GODS COUNTRY".. really cool pics, I think that your choice in guns is a good balance, and all you'll ever need. awesome thread. Gene

Thought I recognised the area.
Don't have an M14 but I've got about a dozen others.
You headed up to the Kamloops gun show this weekend?

Is it select fire???

or semi auto only??

Really Nice Pics, Its nice to know You Canadians are well armed and prepared to protect the north from egg invaders. Thats a really nice rifle,

Though The pics are nice to look at, I really have to question You girlfriends choice in clothing for the out doors :) (Mine complains cause i make her wear sleeves in the woods and on the motorcycle)

I keep hearing about canadas Restrictive gun laws, is this just about handguns ?
