NEVER cut yourself???? (Warning - a few graphic pics)

Just had my worst cut two days ago. Busse AK was falling out of the sheath and I didn’t think “LET IT FALL! DON’T CATCH IT!”

Pictures show after wraps and cleaning it again an hour later. Had no time for any pictures during, as I thought I was about to lose a finger.

Kydex retention is important. What’s more important is awareness of loose kydex. Stay safe, let it fall.

If you use a hammer, eventually you hit your thumb. If you use pliers, eventually you pinch a finger. If you sharpen and use knives, you will cut yourself. The worst cuts are usually from stupid carelessness or careless stupidness. And I’ve got the scars to prove it.:)

Today was my day.
I have a cataract effecting my left eye. So i am using an eye patch on my left eye to see, while i await treatment.
Using a fixed angle sharpener, on my desk, waist high, standing.
This morning, just finishing up the 6th knife, of this two day session. I know i work slow, am un ashamed.
Do not really know what short circuited in my tiny brain.
I think i turned to the right at waist to get a stropping plate,
turned back to knife.
Right hand, end of middle finger, slammed into the tip/belly of blade, straight on, well below the nail, pretty much into the pad.
The cut stopped at what seemed bone, it was a hard stop.
She closed the wound with Steri-Strips, some gauze, and a wrap. Will see tomorrow how it is doing.

Maybe i should start laying out my plates in front of me?
Maybe wicked edge thought about this with there sharpening station deal?

Worst cut I suffered was at the hands of a CRKT Crossbones, stabbed my hand when it flipped out of my hand.

Well, this happened today. I closed my new Jack Wolf knife to the half stop and I guess my finger was sticking out a little too far. Needless to say Jack Wolf can put a good edge on a knife.

This is the worst I've ever cut myself with a knife before. I had to get three stitches but the worst part is they didn't have any lidocaine. They said there are some supply chain issue with certian drugs and medical supplies right now. Anyways, I had to take these John Wick style with no numbing meds. It's been an interesting day.

Sorry my friend. If its any consolation the F ing lidocaine they used on mine hurt worse then the last surgery I had!

I have opened myself up on knives, pieces of G10, Micarta, wood, or carbon fiber handle material, grinders, drills, pyroceram glass platens, saws, my putty knife, screws, nails, even nail clippers. I am sure I'm leaving a dozen or more other things out.

Cuts can be scary
In my case it was a stab through my foot
Lots of blood everywhere
Movies just don't do these kinda things justice

I've had a few, closing knives or cutting against thumb through food or whatever. My first knife was a a Tree Brand pocket knife my Dad gave to me. I can't remember how but I still have a scar across my thumb from that one.
My worst cuts haven't come from knives. I was a Fitter/Machinist for 12 or so years, there are lots of things you can cut yourself on in an industrial metal workshop. Even when you are paying attention.
Possibly the worst cuts I have seen were from a girlfriend of mine who was a chef. I used to sharpen her knives for her regularly. She'd come home with some doozies.
It's a constant risk for chefs.
