Yeah, I got a Gaurdian 3 in cru-wear & it could split atoms.Yep, the 4 Bradford’s I have came very sharp. Also, anything I’ve got from Quiet Carry was pretty good too.
That's really interesting about CRK. I've had a few & they were all very sharp, not Spyderco sharp but still very sharp. I can honestly say I've never gotten a disappointing edge from Spyderco & I've had dozens. BM has been hit or miss with me. 8/10 were good.Ironically both my CRKs came dull towards the tips. I assume since they sharpen them on belts they're careful not to poke the tip into the belt, as it catch the blade and send it flying in any direction. Most knifemakers I know have nightmare stories related to that.
WE/Civivi do decent jobs too.
Spyderco's edges have been very hit or miss for me, since I reprofile on a fixed angle system I don't think I've ever had a Spyderco with an even angle across the length of the blade or on each side, but at least they're sharp and don't have a burr. Benchmades I immediately reprofile, just bad edges, nightmare nightmare nightmare bad.
I agree to a point. They're supposed to go out with a "working edge". This post is about the companies & makers that go the extra mile & make it better than that.I’ve never seen a factory edge that couldn’t be improved.
All this hype about factory edges is silly. It’s usually done with a belt grinder in about 4 seconds. Buck has put out videos of this.
If you can’t do better at home, taking your time with quality stones, you have my sympathy. But you can definitely learn how.
I would rather get a dull blade than one with a recurve it shouldn’t have. A rounded off tip. Or burnt edge.
Yes, the Rocksteads are known for their edge…I have two of their folders and have always wanted one of their fixed blades. The only knife, factory or custom, that I have had and not even considered sharpening is this.

No need to duck. Absolutely right. Spartan comes dull as a brick more often than not.WE and Reate have pleasantly surprised me lately. Wicked sharp out of the box. Complete opposite of anything I’ve gotten from Spartan Knives. ( ducks after throwing shade)
2 of my crks came pretty dull, but the rest were decent. Ive never got a dull shiro.Ironically both my CRKs came dull towards the tips. I assume since they sharpen them on belts they're careful not to poke the tip into the belt, as it catch the blade and send it flying in any direction.
