new 2012 Cold steel: "Secret edge" thoughts

I'm guessing none of you are the SCA or medieval combat sorts. I know a bunch of folks that will be happy to see an inexpensive buckler that's suitable for mock combat. Those are surprisingly hard to come by. Considering all of Cold Steel's training swords, I'm actually quite shocked to see that you guys don't understand that there's plenty of folks that would find that product very useful.

Not that, in the terms that are getting expressed here, the majority of Cold Steel's lineup is useful. Leaving aside the Recon, Voyager, a few machete models, and the hawks, how many of you actually think that the rest of Cold Steel's stuff is "useful"? But there's clearly a market for it. Different strokes and all that.

As for the particular model mentioned, since i'm not a skean dhu fan, I probably won't be getting it. Although it looks kinda fun.

I'm going to remove the handle on the shield and wear it like a sombrero.

Sweet Jesus did I ever laugh at that...

I've got both HoldOuts and very very excellent knives. I am "holding out" for the 6" version. Other knives and sundry products don't interest me to much except the lock back folders. keepem sharp

Wow!! Much better than last year. Love the new machetes, the viking battle axe(bite me), and the spear point recon. The micro recons are some cute widdle knives:oawwee.

I see at least 4 wants - the big Holdout, the spearpoint recon, the Laredo trainer (now if they just made a Natchez trainer) and the Viking axe. As to the buckler - it's not a shield - it's a perfect complement to the Euro training swords, as has been stated already.

looks like my hand would slide up and i would cut myself if i had to stab with it. And it seems to be symmetrical and impossible to index. not good for SD imo, and a weird design for edc.... Ill pass

You can always cap the pommel with your thumb and stab in reverse grip.

Pretty much exactly why they made them. People have been begging them to make one for a few years now.

Can you imagine someone having to use their CS knife in a self defense situation, only to find the attacker whips out a CS shield? The irony!

I imagine a shield is not illegal to edc, combine that with a massive folder or bowie and we are talking total tactical dominance.

The mandarin term for Contradiction is 矛盾; 矛 = spear, 盾= shield
There goes this story several thousands years ago in China market:

A weapon seller kept boasting how his spear would penetrate even the hardest thing on earth.
When picking up his shield he once again went all out on how his mighty shield could take any hardest piercing object.
On top of all the hoos and haas, one by-stander shouted:

How about Piercing your SPEAR with your mighty SHIELD?

You mean like.... LARPers?

I'll be getting one of these. I like that they will actually be grinding the edge at the top of the ricasso, unlike the Braveheart which has a half inch of dullness at the base. My biggest qualm is that the sheath is specific to neck carry. I would love to see this same knife with a clip or MOLLE back.

I cant believe there are so many swords on the market, and almost no shields. I am glad they at least brought something to the market.

It is no more ridiculous to make shields than it is to make swords. (if you want to argue it is ridiculous at all)
