new 2012 Cold steel: "Secret edge" thoughts

I'll be getting one of these. I like that they will actually be grinding the edge at the top of the ricasso, unlike the Braveheart which has a half inch of dullness at the base. My biggest qualm is that the sheath is specific to neck carry. I would love to see this same knife with a clip or MOLLE back.

Just use the lashing holes and some cord to attach it to MOLLE webbing. ;)

What the hell happened to Cold Steel. I was a customer of theirs in the early '90s, they had a good product line, you know, knives meant to be used hard that stood up to it... But they were usable knives... Of good materials. Now all i see it low quality materials in a mall ninja line!? How dissapointing.

Its really not a bad idea to make stuff like the shield, if there is a market, who cares? It makes Lynn money, and if his videos haven't made you hate Cold Steel yet, this certainly won't. I for one think its kinda cool that someone is willing to make this type of stuff, no matter how lame it is. (just my .02)
The main line of folders is great (recon, voyager) so as long as they keep that up I couldn't care less what else they throw in the mix. But I really can't wait to see Lynn in his booty shorts dancing around with the buckler, ill be getting my popcorn ready.

And I love the looks of the Secret Edge :D

lol. i just imagine him going "the cold steel buckler is the bes- er, Only buckler on the marker."

Maybe it's my anti-CS bias, but it reminds me of a foreshortened Boker Bud Nealy Ilumination (minus the glow-in-the-dark coating of course).

Hopefully it will all be affordable. I wish his swords were priced a bit more competitively. I like them as being big, overbuilt, chopping monstrosities, although they're not my favorite for actual martial arts use; balance is pretty off on most of them that I got to handle.

I wouldn't mind seeing a bigger shield also. I ended up making my own for light stuff, since I'm not much of a buckler guy.

well, nothing happened. They used AUS8 back then, they use AUS8 now. They had carbon steel/low alloy fixed blades back then, they have them now. They sold swords, shovels, axes, spears, etc then, they sell them now. Unless you miss the fighting sarong, the product lines aren't amazingly different.

Wow, I've found just the opposite. My first experiences with Cold Steel were pretty poor - overpriced, poorly made knives and tomahawks that had all manner of flaws and corners-cut, which led me to write the brand off altogether. A few years later, I bought the Demko designed Lawman and found it to be a very well made and extremely well designed knife with a nifty new lock that just friggin' worked. It seems to me that Cold Steel's lineup has been improving these past couple of years.

I never knew about the fighting sarong. Sort of funny, that. Google images to the rescue. Did they go up in value when they were discontinued? Tactical plaid, no less!

A few suggestions for CS's 2013 catalog:
Indestructable Rubber Battle-Mace (finally, a battle-mace that can get through security checks)
EDC Mini Trebuchet (pesky neighbors)
Tactical Throwing-Shovel for when dirt just doesn't cooperate. (oh wait...they actually make that)
And last but not least...the CS Sorcerers Cape! One size fits all with MOLLE attachments and flight capability at high speed/high altitude. Available colors : tactical black

And for $200 more, the limited edition: purple with San Mai III moons and stars.

lets not forget the tactical 20 sided die.

You are surrounded by thick alders. Before you stands an orc. In one hand is a Nightshade dagger; in the other, a black leather sleeve filled with dragon meat. It should be noted that he has a +9 against mithril chainmail and +7 against buckler shields.
