NEW 4.7 Thread

Thanks TR and Silver! I thought this would be the case but just wanted to know for sure.

I reckon what might have happened with the 4.7s is that the handles weren't quite flush (to Guy's standards) with the tang!
As long no particles and as little moisture as possible can infiltrate between the tang and the scales, I'll be a happy man.

I got two of those great messages we all look forward to from Survive today... Your order has been updated, and your order has been SHIPPED. This was #7486, a 3V 4.7. Yes!!!!

Ellie always has better answers than I do, but I feel good about what they're doing and what I have!

As do I!
I don't own dozens of other fixed blades that I could compare my 4.7 to, but it's by far the best piece of sharpened steel I've ever owned - period.

my first survive! knives...a cru forge v 4.7. first impression is it's worth the hype regarding fit & finish...should make the wait for the 4.1 a little easier.

Another beckerhead! Glad your first impressions are good. Wow, I need to go check out some of your reviews on gear!

All that seems to be left are 4.7 in CPM-154. All the seconds and the 3V and 20CV firsts appear to be gone.

The word? I read somewhere that they were made by request and these are the extras.

I finally got the shipping notice on my 3V 4.7!!!! Actually, I think I got the notice Wed. USPS is estimating delivery for Saturday.

Meanwhile, I finally spent the bucks for a dedicated strop, with green and black media imbedded. Using the green on the 4.7 in CruV was eye-opening. I actually got it, and a satin, convex, INFImandu so sharp that I could shave my sideburns around my ears like a straight-razor. I might be a new strop-fan.

Congratulations on the shipping notice! Long awaited for sure. Can't wait for pics.

Great to hear about the strop. Which brand?
I'm converting to the strop lifestyle and leaving my diamond plates behind except for serious edge repair.

Just read that Instagram post Silver. Glad I won't regret choosing a 154 factory 2nd instead of 20CV!

Good to hear dogboye!

I got the Flexxxstrop Field Sharpener. It's not too large, but it is large enough that it wouldn't be the greatest for carrying on a camping or backpacking trip.

Thanks!

Awesome! ManofSteel got me in to Flexxx strops awhile ago. I'm pretty sure I have the same strop as you. I really like it. Now I just want a bigger one!

FINALLY got my new 4.7!!! I love the new heat treat 3v. I am going out to get a few pieces of treated lumber and whale away! Thanks to Guy and Ellie for the great communications Can't wait to get my other pre-orders.

W/ my CFV

This one is with my custom 5.1 & CFV

Woohoo!!!!! Very nice, OBX. Your new 4.7 and 5.1 sure look great, what a pair.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts after some use and seeing what you produce

Thanks! If it's anything like my CFV 4.7 it'll be a monster. You can't tell but I've been using it a bunch. It holds an edge very well and is easily resharpened with a strop. I really like the 4.7 but it's still a toss up which knife I like better, 4.7 or 5.1.

Guy told me this 3v is at 60-61 Rockwell but feels it's a little easier to sharpen then the old 3v. I am looking forward to finding out!!

So I got to bang away with my new 4.7 and finished the rather large try stick I've been working on for a few days. It's a treated pine dowel that is 1 1/3" thick and surprisingly tough. I did part of it with my CFV, I stated working on it last week when I got my 4.7 shipping notice, and I finished it this morning with my new 4.7. As to be expected the blade on the new 4.7 has no rolls and is not any duller than when I received it a few days ago. I did try to see if I could dull it by cutting and twisting and making 45 degree cuts but the knife edge is still clean and scary sharp as stated above. It's really a great knife.
