NEW 4.7 Thread

I have a 2nd in 20CV on order. I've been lurking on the Survive page to see if any more 3V is going to be released but it seems like the supply is tight.

This is what Karoi took delivery of yesterday.

I won't bore everyone with a first impressions review, because I have pretty much the same opinions as most others who own this knife.
What I will say is that I'm glad I've got a another factory 2nd 4.7 on the way :D
I look forward to putting both to the test and seriously abusing the factory 2nd.

This blade has already done some serious air miles. It went from Kellog ID, to Spokane WA, San Fransisco, Auckland New Zealand, Melbourne Australia, then finally Perth.
Next year it'll be coming with me on holiday to Africa.

Way to go, Karoi! Personally, I love a good unboxing or first impressions or review or random string on thoughts about a GSO :D.

Well, traveled indeed! I think it's pretty cool we have so many Aussies in this area of the internet. When you go to Africa we NEED pics! Other than Antarctica, Africa is the only un-GSO'ed continent!

Haha - speaking of unboxing, I was a little disappointed when I received the knife and realised that I wouldn't be the first to do so. Aussie customs/border force had opened it up for inspecting.....oh well.
Once I've given this thing a good test next month, I'll be sure to give my thoughts on how it performs.

Thanks for being welcoming towards us folks the other side of the world (literally)!
I'll try get a nice GSO pick with a good African sunset in the background

We have shipped a few to South Africa and I believe there have been a few to other countries in Africa but I can't remember off the top of my head. We have always meant to get a large map and start putting pins on places we have shipped to. It was going to be something we did in our permanent location, whenever we get there, but perhaps I should just bite the bullet and get that started now since we've already shipped so many places.

Hey, all the steel options on the 4.7 are finally sold out! :)
According to the latest production update I'll have to wait for the 2.7 models to be shipped before I get my 4.7 2nd in 20CV.

That would be cool to see a map. Even a list of countries would be neat. Maybe a project for a rainy day ;)

Fancier, you're very observant!

We are getting those Factory 2nds slipped in here and there. I can't say we will have all of them out because we would really like to get some of those older orders shipped by the end of the year. We will get them shipped asap.

The latest Instagram post is a good example of one of the changes we made in the workshop, due to the GSO-4.7 run challenges. Stacking tolerances led to some pretty large variations in handle fitment. A few orders went together beautifully but most knives needed some adjustments to get the handles to fit up well with the blade. Something that is very important to us because the handles are removable and because we want sheaths to fit without folks having to get it formed specifically for their knife. We can't just slap the handles on there and then grind the whole thing so that it a perfect transition from scale to blade to scale. So we have had to start sizing the handles to the blade, and sometimes Christian still has a hard time getting everything lined up (which is why some of the blades in that picture are sharpened already). As you can imagine, trying to put these together on sharp knives adds a whole extra layer of difficulty.

By adjusting how we are doing things, we were actually able to fulfill the remaining preorders (about 50%) in less than half the time it took to get the first 50% out. The presale orders have gone much more smoothly as well. I know these have been a long and arduous journey, but there has been some good to come out of it. We are expecting future runs to be much smoother, 1: the tolerance issues have been worked out so we won't have to worry about those stacking up quite so much on us, 2: the new process is proving to be much more effective.

We are SO looking forward to having these all shipped out and moving forward through these remaining preorders. It has been a huge relief to have Jordyn in the office so I can spend my time in the workshop helping to keep things organized while trying to learn as much as I can about what Guy does, to help relieve some of his workload. Thank you everyone for your patience with these orders.

Thanks very much for elaborating on the cause of the 4.7 delays.

I'll most likely be ordering an extra sheath and scales for my 4.7s, but will there be an issue with how they'll all fit together
Will I need to send the blank in so you guys can get them fitted properly??

Just think, soon you get to start working on the 12's which will doubtless add it's own layer of complexities with it being such a big beast and all :p Just kidding, of course. That's a pretty impressive improvement.

Karoi,
I'm not presuming to answer for Ellie, but let you tell my experience. I have made several dozen sets of custom handles for the 5.1, 4.7, 4.1 and 3.5. I have fit all the handles I make to my personal knife and sheath, with the exception of the 4.1s. All of them fit within about +/- .010", which I do by hand. The sheath can tolerate this level of tolerance, and you'll likely never notice. I believe that once a knife, handle and sheath leave the shop, they are virtually interchangeable. I have never had a customer with an issue on handles that don't quite fit right and all my work is by hand and eyeball. No CNC work. As such, you'll never have an issue ordering aftermarket parts direct from Survive. As they say, buy with confidence!

All I can say is the handles and sheaths from my 3v 4.7 and cruforge 4.7 all fit together in any combination with no detectable differences.

TR knows his stuff!
