Hey guys ,I have not seen any mention of the new Victorinox hunter pro with alox scales and pocket clip ,got mine in the mail yesterday, carried it today, nice looker for sure, a bit on the heavy side at 6.2 oz. But built like a tank and came very sharp.
I highly recommend this if you like Alox SAKs,oh btw pinned construction so no tinkering..sorry

I’ve been curious about this one. It’s hard to tell from internet pictures. Is it too thin to be comfortable in hand? Is it too big for comfortable pocket carry? How thin is the grind?

I like the look of it as well as the quality of the build. Still I need at least a couple tools on a Vic.

Not as thin as the CS Code 4,so it's more comfortable than that, plus the texture/knurling with rounded edges on the scales has a pleasant feel to it, I really like the clip its long but it goes over my carhartt jeans pocket easily, also has steel liners which I believe is adding to the weight

If only it was 20% smaller it would be an instant buy for me. But with that length and (more important maybe) weight, I'm not sure.

I read a few reports of up and down play with the regular model. I wonder if that has been addressed with this new one?

Yeah it is a tad on the large side, 4.2 oz with Skeletonized liners, then we have a big seller for sure

I had one but sold it. it was razor sharp out of the box, good lockup felt good in the hand, deep pocket clip. I found the looks kind of ugly, wasnt crazy about the blade shape or its beadblast finish. wish it had thumb lugs and it was more of a clip blade.Sold it to a friend at the price I got it for.Theres a red and I think a green version too. like the alox handles, too with polished steel liners .

Vic steel is okay for a multitool but on a large single blade folder like that, no thanks. They really need to venture into some modern steels with better edge holding. A hap40 delica blows this thing out of the water.

Come on now, you can’t make a post like this and not post any pics!

Maybe also VG10? But some people just want a simple steel that they can sharpen themself. I, for example, don't have the equipment to sharpen S30v or a supersteal like CPM3v, so I prefer a softer steel and I just sharpen it more often.

Edit: The steel seems to be X55CrMo14 aka EN 1.4110 which is hardened to 56HRC, so yes it is on the softer side of the spectrum.

Looks nice, but I just don’t understand a SAK without a couple extra tools at least. Tons of knives around that price with much better steels. To each his own though!

That's not a terrible looking knife, and I imagine in red ALOX, it'd look pretty nice.

Horribly thick blade grind. Looks like they're trying the sharpened pry bar market. Have to wonder why Victorinox is trying to go in a market that is not their expertise field?

Are we talking about pliers based multi-tools, watches, travel gear, or fragrances?

Good argument to be made that Victorinox's primary expertise is branding and marketing.

The grind style looks thick, but the blade is thin so it’s really not bad. You can kinda see it here:

Looks like a nice SAK model. The thickness of the blade does matter as it takes them away from their forte. Don't think I will be buying. I have avoided the hunter models as they are generally too large for pocket carry and I have a good selection of woods/hunting knives already.

IMO, it would be better if the blade were a FFG; or if the saber grind started higher up. Such a thick saber grind (even on a relatively thin blade stock) would become progressively more difficult to sharpen fairly quickly, if the knife is used a lot. I also don't care for bead blast finishes.

To me, it looks like it could have been something I might be interested in, but for those two main reasons.

Jim
