I thought Ontario and Gerber were the only ones producing an ASEK knife. Ran into this German made one in Colombia.

Doesn't seem like the best design to me, but my inexperience in escaping a downed aircraft doesn't really make me the best judge. Were your helicopter pilots carrying that or was it salvaged from Tony Montana's lab?

I had a Ontario ASEK knife and it was pretty decent for it's design but to me for my needs the Blade was way to busy so I flipped it...

It seems like there is more of a saw & serrated edge than a plain edge to the knife. Im surprised the hook doesnt open from the spine instead of the belly. It does look like a serious tool though, I wonder how it would stand up to a heavy use/stress test? So thats a German made knife, do they also make the Sham wow

At first glance those ASEK knives look abit mall ninja-esque but what do i know. Their sole purpose is to get one out of a mangled downed aircraft, cutting harnesse, breaking plexi-glass, and sawing through metal fuselages.

Now those blades look real specialized so do pilots then ditch their ASEK knife and pull out another blade once on the ground?

I know that Swedish airforce pilots are issued Fallkniven F1 knives for survival purposes.

I actually carry the RT-III on my gear and have put it through some hell. The spine on the one I have is a "glasmaster" used for cutting windshields. They hold up well for prying doors and hoods (not all the way, just enough to get a bite with the extracation tools ) I did chew up the blade on the webbing / seatbelt cutter but it was from cutting battery cables(easy to unscrew and sharpen). It has done everything that I have needed it to do and it is smaller than the BK-3. I will say I could have done without the cheap glow-in-the-dark stickers on the handle. I would much rather have a black one.

I can't help but think that a good stout knife (read RC-4) to start a cut/hole and a hack saw to carve you out from there would work far better. But I'm a simple civilian sitting on my couch and acting like a potato....

I guess I'm not in the loop on this particular ASEK knife but obviously there is some super secret story on it that everyone just wants to comment on but not elaborate on. I apologize for bringing it up here and obviously being a dumbass about the thing.

To me, I couldn't give a rat's ass who made it or what it looks like, if it works. So, what's the story? Someone get their feelings hurt over this knife somewhere?
