New Beater Knife For Work

I found H&K 14715 on an auction site for $60 plus shipping.
The 14716 is the mini version, blade only 2.88 in.
Probably find a good price on this if you're willing look around.

Well, if you raise the budget slightly...just kidding!

Another vote for the Link and Tuff Lite.

Also want to throw out the Ontario Utilitac II. Hell of a beater knife.

If the only reason for no Spyderco is flat grind, they do have delicas with saber grind, 2.9" blade.
Seems to fit all your criteria except price, it's $5 past your limit. oh well.

Those HK's have a pretty rock solid blade too. And love the edge life they get with their D2. However they heat treat them, they seem to be done right.

I'm gonna go ahead and be that guy... Go with the Kershaw Cryo if the assisted open isn't too scary or a Sanrenmu 7010 for a classy looking non-threatening beater. Take your wife for a decent dinner with the savings :) I actually EDC my 710 when I feel people may overreact to a scary looking larger knife.

+1 for the Sanrenmu 7010 as one of the best bang for buck knife. The belly on that thing is sweet, super solid and only under $10. Only thing is non reversible clip.

Buck Vantage is also a great knife under $60. Spydercos are usually great at this price range, but I know you said none of those.

+1 on the SRM, incredible little beater for the money, and classy looking

and take a look at a similar sized, priced and built knife, HARNDS Nyx.

Awesome inexpenisve offering, even though it's partially serrated, assisted and black is plain cute and nice looking. I carry it around people who frown upon even smaller blades.

I know this is crazy, but good old Swiss Army knife in Alox. Useful tools and does not cause heart attacks, fits the pocket nicely, not very tactical. Assuming you want a more robust one for chores around the office?

I have to second the Rat 2. I have a Rat 1 in D2 that takes a lot of abuse so I assume that the 2 would take it as well.

Why not a good old, tried and true, trusted and made in the USA Buck 112 Ranger?

Good looking, rugged, lifetime warranty and available for $43.95 with sheath at knifeworks.com - I am sure other BF supporting dealers have the 112 as well.

Good luck - I am sure you will get a knife you will love to use.

If you don't like the SRM then I second the SAK because that is a classy looking knife with zero threat factor. I don't know anybody that can't respect a SAK for the tool that it is.

Another vote for the Tuff Lite. I carried mine exclusively for a year, and I loved everything about it. Fairly light, a complete breeze to sharpen, and the actual edge is 2", so you would not get in any trouble. Not to mention the knife profile is extremely non threatening. I've had people mistake it for a box cutter before.

Kizer Vanguard V3 Vigor is VG10.

Kershaw Injection 3.0 lives next to my cardboard recycling bin.

For about $10, everyone should own a Sanrenmu 7010 beater.

My favorite true beater was a Gerber Crusader. That ugly bastard loved to be neglected.
