It sucks when life gets in the way of things like that, but... that's life.I bought it several years ago, and the wife a Gregory something or another. Jade 55 I believe it was. We were going to do a hike on the river to river trail in southern Illinois, but both ended up losing our jobs at the time. Got things going again, and bought a cabin, so the hiking thing kinda sorta fizzled. They both still have the tags on them.
My son hikes several miles with me at 3. Finally got him to sleep in the tent wirh me at the end of last season (instead of thinking it's a darn game for 3 hours past bedtime). It sucks when life gets in the way of things like that, but... that's life.
With a 4 year old and possibly talking the Mrs. into another, I doubt my hiking in the near term is going to be what I dream it could be.
Maybe I just buy the pack to guilt myself into hiking more regardless? yeah... yeah... that's the ticket...
Amen.Summary of the story, get them started in nature young. There are too many distracting electronics in the world these days to try and pull them away from it later with any sense of ease.

I carry my daughter in a deuter child carrier, my wife carries much of the other stuff, and my son carries himself, which is actually nice as kids in a carrier are heavier than my normally loaded pack. We do more day hikes than overnighyers but I'm hoping this year is the year I can at least get out with the boy by foot or bike.
A chest rig pairs nicely with a child cariier pack, BTW.
We did many backyard attempts last summer and fall before he finally slept in a tent with me. The hammock works pretty well but gets a little snug now that he's bigger. He would only sleep in the hammock when car camping when he was 1-2 years.
We did have a few grear day trips in the kayak together too.

I’ve been thinking of getting a HPG chest rig of some flavor. Mainly so I am keep my firearm more accessible when rambling around deep in the forest. My son hikes several miles with me at 3. Inspirational- my 4 year old just hiked about a mile and a half with me through the green mountains two weeks ago. Maybe we have some hope yet!My son hikes several miles with me at 3. It has a removable waist belt, just like my old one did. And you can upgrade the straps if you want.
