New Benchmade "Redoubt"

I'm holding out to see if they release an uncoated version. If not, maybe a dealer exclusive down the road will be uncoated.

If you like complaining about prices increasing on things you are probably having a good time right now. Everything is getting way more expensive, including knives. The price isn’t ridiculous. It is what a higher end knife costs now.
Sure, I love it. Going to be picking up a second job soon. But that's okay, it's for a good reason.

Some people really can't handle any kind of negative word towards Benchmade.

I like the design. It’s a good looking knife, but plastic handles and D2 are hard passes for me. Throw some g10 and Cruwear in there and I’d be in.

Yes it is overpriced. The grey G10 20CV Griptilian was priced at $180 something and still moved very slowly. I doubt myself spending $20 less to get this redoubt. Demko 20.5 D2 is hugely overpriced so it is moot to justify the price of this BM based on that knife.

The pricing is a little high but not unexpected given who it's coming from, and this shouldn't really be surprising people at this point. This knife looks fairly practical, and I actually like the idea CPM D2 in this application. I think their CPM Cru-Wear would be better, but I'm always happy to see steels prioritizing toughness in knifes that are aimed at rough tasks.

I won't buy one, but I'd probably point a particular subset of users towards it as a good option.

I agree that the D2 and AUS10A AD20.5 are overpriced, however, I think the CPM-3V version is reasonable as its an exclusive plus the better steel. Plus, the sheer enjoyment I get from opening and closing that knife is worth at least $50.

The knife is likely overpriced but if others feel the same, it won't sell and that will fix that. A few things to note though.

First, those comparing this to the AUS10 and D2 Demko knives are missing a crucial point, those knives feature a brand new lock. The axis lock, while a fantastic lock, is at this point decades old. At least Demko can make the claim that part of the knife's pricing is due to the R&D costs associated with developing and manufacturing a new locking mechanism.

Second, BM offers a lot of value in their life sharp service. However, the vast majority of Benchmade owners (in my opinion) would gladly pay $20-$30 to send their knife in for service in exchange for a $30 price drop across the board on their products. I know I would.

This isn't insane overpricing but it is helpful to keep in mind similar products in their line. CPM D2 is fine steel. The axis lock is great. FRN is a serviceable handle material. That said, right now a 20cv griptilian is listed at BHQ for $165 (Albeit out of stock). This is a very similar knife with objectively more expensive materials (G10 and 20cv) and the same locking mechanism also produced in the US.

Time will tell if this will be a winner for them but I have to say, the track record for their recent successes have been releasing the product at a much lower price (think Bugout that was selling for like $110 when it first came out) and after it gets a cult following increase the price. Starting at $160 I know that prevents me from jumping on one in a world where the Hogue Ritter exists.

Funny ive never seen one complaint about the AD20s with D2 And grivory going for 300-600.00,and the Demko AD20.5 is about this price, only the BM has a better steel and is a bit bigger....

Is the sheepsfoot grip still in production? Would be a shame if not.
Id be way more interested in a sheepsfoot grip in cruwear than this or anything else benchmade offers

Oregon City has a high cost of living; wages are increasing, has rising real estate costs, as well as all other consumables.

All these factors are gonna play into the cost of a Benchmade.

I wonder if the CPM-D2 will come completely toasted in HT like my son's exclusive Contego in M390? The edge has literally eroded while in storage.
huh? Please elaborate.
My m390 Contego's edge came to me used and burned, but a few sharpenings got to the good stuff and it is as good as my m390-710, which is very good, I love this steel.
