NEW BUY! ZT 0300BW Any first hand experience???

The 300 series is an impact weapon in its own rite. You will luv it n have a stupid smile stuck on your face while u open n close it 2000 times. Enjoy it brother

Trust me, I know. Between that ant the unmistakable "THWACK" from the 3 Emerson's I bought in the last week (haven't gotten them yet) my girlfriend is going to be so pissed with me doing that all day for the next week, haha

I know exactly what you are talking about now. And personally I prefer washer. KVT may be smoother, but I've heard the space needed for the bearings can sometimes get a lot of dirt in it, and foul the action. Whereas with the washer system there is much less space for contaminates to get into the action. And if they do it's much easier to clean out.

With regards to dirt/grime accumulating in the pivot area, it's really no different be it KVT or washers. It may "slow" the action down a little, but it won't compromise the function. The knife will still open and close just fine. It just might not be as smooth as when it is clean and freshly oiled. The "fix" is the same in either case - just flush it out with hot, soapy water, dry it out, and oil if needed. Between my KVT and flat washer knives, the rate of accumulation of crud in the pivot is about the same, so I wouldn't say either one has a maintenance advantage.

Here's a video another forum member did of his 0561 (with KVT) submerged in a bucket of muddy water: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/949197-ZT0561-Mudbucket!!!!!

But back to your main topic... I have a 0301, and I like it a lot. It's probably still the most comfortable knife in hand of all the ones I have. The wide and contoured handle really fits the hand well. As for the blackwash finish, I really like how it looks on my Skyline and Blur. I haven't seen it in person on a 0300, but the pictures I have seen look great.

i have been looking at some different ZT's. let me know what you think of the knife when you get it

Damn, not bad. It would make a nice option at the least. How has the coating on your black wash blades held up compared to the DLC on your 0301?

The blackwash finish is a DLC coating that's been through the stonewashing process. So, they should be very similar in terms of durability. The blackwash will hide scratches better (not unlike stonewashed blades), whereas the DLC will show marks pretty prominently. It's tough stuff though. I cut apart a tin soup can with my 0550BLK. It made a mess on the DLC, but it turns out it was actually the metal residue from the can, and wear on the DLC itself.

Here's a pic I took of my 0550 after cutting the can apart: (see this post). Here's another I took at a later date that shows the residue can be wiped off, showing no damage to the DLC itself: (see this post).

IMHO that is subject to debate. I have collected bearing flippers for years and have had no such issues. I think it really depends on your application. If you try to foul up the action on a knife it can be done with some decent amount of effort. But when using a knife as a knife and little else the chances IMHO are pretty small. As for cleaning its been my experience that if dirt can easily get in somewhere it can easily be removed with a flush.

Not bad at all. But any scratch I got on that finish would piss me off to no end... The black wash will help hide them better hopefully.

I'm not like most people on here. No matter what knife it is or how much it costs I treat it as a tool, not just a knife. I have a SOG Tigershark Elite that has been through more mud and clay than I care to remember, haha

I stay away from knives with bearing systems because of this...

My then new Military five hours into it's first day at work with me.

Hmmm...would be interesting to pick up a inexpensive Kershaw that uses KVT to see how it holds up.

My old 301 with washers worked fine (as does my Military).

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet in this thread (there was a lot of back and forth I didn't read) but someone did mention deassisting. I don't know if they have changed this on newer runs but mine cannot be easily deassisted because it lacks a detent hole. That is my only complaint I have with this knife. Honestly, I don't really want to deassist it, I just want a detent hole to help keep the blade closed with extra security and have a detent to overcome to give the blade a little extra speed coming out. I have been thinking of having someone put one in. Other than that, if you like big, clunky, and overbuilt this is a great knife!

I've been thinking about getting a Military. How do you like it so far?

I like it. It is what replaced my 301. Well that and a PM2.

Been on a little buying spree myself.

Craytab, I hope that have fixed that. But if not I probably won't notice after a while. Odd question but what size hands do you have? That knife seems to fit you pretty damn well.

That would come in handy, haha But if you Stabbed a piece of wood and bent the knife to the side. Would you expect to bring up broken wood or a broken knife? I've had good and bad luck with spyderco tips in the past.
