Are there any photos of the soon to be released Byrds? I've seen talks of expanding the G10 and FRN offerings, as well as the flatground framelock that was recently discussed here. I haven't seen any for sale yet.

Hi Vivi,

In addition to the first stainless models, there are G-10 and FRN versions of the Cara Cara, Meadowlark and Robin. I believe all of these are currrently shipping, except for the FRN Robin. I carried the FRN Robin daily for ab out 3 weeks. Used it for everything from carboard to food. Nice socially friendly reliable cutter. We should have Robins in the next several months.

We're making samples of G-10 Ravens and Crows.

We have a very flat clip-less folder coming out in a month or so.

We're going to test a G-10 Flight.

We have 3 other designs in the works of which I cannot speak (all of the sales crew is armed ;) )

We have a byrd sharpening tool coming out.

We have already begun our relentless CQI and small refinements will appear on all of the models. Most likely un-announced.

Hooray! Go Go Go!

G10 Crow! G10 Raven! G10 Flight! Can I put my 2 cents in for using the same clip on the Crow for other small models? It is excellent (good shape, black but not painted!) I've been carrying the Crow lately and it has won me over. I really like it. Great ergos.

3 other designs in the works? Could they be- fixed blades?

Keep the Byrds coming, Sal! If you keep making 'em, we'll keep buying 'em. As soon as I can find a G10 Robin, it's going in my pocket.

Sal,

Any insight into what QC changes will be made to the byrd line?

Hi Ratdog,

Mostly refinements that will make them lighter, stronger, safer, or perform better. Material improvements, design refinements, engineering improvements...

In some cases, I'll mention some changes after we make them. In some cases, it's proprietary.

Damn you Sal! I just ordered 5 Byrds...Now I will have to order more when they are improved upon.

Sal, Still waiting to hear from ya on my offer to test the new G-10 Flights..
I don't want to seem over eager, O.K maybe I do, what ever it takes to get the product to the masses LOL :D

Anybody have any suggestions for the incremental improvements Sal mentioned?

I vote for some tweaking on the Cara Cara clip. I'd like to see it parkerized (or otherwise non-chippy black) rather than painted. I'd also like to see something done about the end. For some reason, the Cara Cara clip gets caught on things more than any of my other knife clips. Like the end needs to be bent down a little more. The Crow clip is excellent, would that work on the Cara Cara, or is it too small?

Thanks for the reply Sal. I recently came across the G10 Robin in the 2007 catalog on the Spyderco site. I'll have to order one and compare it to my G10 Meadowlark and Cara Cara. The Cara Cara has made me essentially quit buying knives I'm so happy with it. I haven't bought a new knife since I got mine and the only knives I plan to get at the moment are more of the Cara Cara's in G10. Very well designed knife.

That clipless folder sounds interesting. I take the clips off all my Byrds and Spydercos because I feel the decrease in ergonomics isn't worth the trade off in accessability.

You have a very satisfied customer in me with your Byrd line. Thank you and keep up the good work.

:D This does make me happy !! Hopefully, Sal, you'll have some of the protos in Amsterdam...??

I disassembled my Crow over the weekend and removed the finish. There are some significant grind marks under the coating, but I like it much better now! The grind marks actually look kind of cool. I also sharpened it for the first time. Man that 8Cr13MoV is some easy sharpening stuff.
