My boyfriend is buying me my first knife and going to show me how to use it, what would be the best knife for a girl and beginner!!

I bought my girlfriend a spyderco dragonfly with pink frn scales... and she loves it!
Its light, small enough for her to handle and extremely sharp!

I just bought my girl a spyderco cat. She thought the name was cute and its a nice small blade.

Make the guy spend some cash. A unique graphics Sebenza, or a William Henry.

That is great you guys are getting into a hobby together. My wife loves the smaller Spydercos and Benchmades.. she like the BM 707 and Mini-grips. Spydercos, she likes the Dragonfly. But if he really loved you he'd get you a Chris Reeve Small Sebenza (kidding) :D

I've given my wife and lil sister a pink dragonfly, if you want a slightly larger knife the benchmade mini-grip is my personal favorite (not just not of the 2, out of everything I own) and comes in several colors. What's your budget? The mini grip is about $85-125 (depending on options/color) and the spyderco dragonfly is about $55, for just a few dollars more you can get a spyderco Delica 4 in purple (my wide also has one of these and loves it too) for about the same as the dfly.

Also what's your intended use? Do you plan to pocket carry or purse carry?

Pink Spyderco Squeak.
Pink Izula.

A ZT350 should suit smaller hands, and there are also some other good bang-for-the-buck knives worth looking into like the Blur, Manix2, and mini Grip. You dont have to get a girly knife just because youre a girl, but if you want, they're also available in pink.

I also recommend the squeak. It's the knife I bought my girlfriend. It's a great first knife. One thing that my girlfriend likes is that it is about the most legal and people friendly knives made.

I "third" the Spydie Dragonfly. . . if you like "hole" openers that is!

BUT. . .

Do you want a fixed blade or folder?

For folders, do you want a modern one-hand opener or something like a classic Swiss Army knife that most knife knuts began with?

For one hand openers there are holes, studs, disks, assisted openings, autos (check for legalities of course!).

Do you want something small, slim or large and hand-filling?

Also, do you think your boyfriend going to splurge on his purchase? Or do you think he'll be conservative?

The truth of it though is that you need to do a little bit of research yourself because there are so many options out there.

What I would suggest first is to have a look around first as what tickles your fancy/interest. Couple this with the knowledge of how you will be using it daily. Only then would you have some of the right questions to ask to help you with.

Good luck with your search!

Great to see a lady interested in carrying a knife.

Off the top of my head:
Spyderco Delica 4, Dragonfly, any of the Tenacious line (Ambitious, Persistance, Tenacious, Resilience), Benchmade Mini-Griptilian 556 or 555, 707 Sequel, Ontario Rat 2 or Rat 1,
Buck Vantage, Kershaw Chive, Scallion, Leek, Cryo.

To give a better recommendation, we need to know to ask a few questions.
Do you want a folder or a fixed blade ?
What's your budget ?
What are you going to be using it for ? Typical EDC carry stuff, like opening packages, slicing an apple, etc. Or are you looking for something more heavy duty ?
Do you like small knives, or large knives ? Do your like Spring assisted knives ?

After giving my wife 4 or 5 different knives ,she settled on a Kershaw Volt2 . It is a assisted flipper knife around 25 bucks if I remember right. Good luck on you quest for the perfect knife.
