New Chris Reeve finish on titanium handles and standard blades

In looking at the website, you can get them polished or not. However, they are charging more for the polished.

Example:

Large Macassar Ebony: $575
Large Polished Mac Ebony: $650.

I never liked the look of the polished scales, especially the way that they left the lockbar blasted. Always looked odd to me. I'd say this seems like an improvement.
I do agree that looked weird. Maybe it had to do with that a polished lock bar would be slippery in operation. No clue. I owned a 21 with Bocote and that blasted part always bothered me. I guess maybe a distinction for those who collect and those who actually use the knife is why they are offering the two different finishes now?

While a fine knife, I will not purchase a CRK until they put a better designed thumbstud on, or at least make THAT an option.

Maybe they're just trying to stay competitive since the price of everything is increasing and they’re already at the higher end of their market segment?
Boise , is a very very expensive place to live and have a business, and whiskey cost more , they have a novel business model, of let us crank out the SOS and pray CPM makes a different steel , magna was their new life ring

I've been thinking about selling my large Sebenza 21 with CF inlays but this news definitely changes my plan. I like the polished slabs with the CF inlays. Would not have bought it if it were matte finish.

Interesting seeing so many changes happen so relatively quickly for a knife company that was known for not changing. Going from the introduction of the 31 to the mnandi's rolling changes as well as the s45vn/3v switch, then to the possibility to magnacut being on the horizon, and now changes to the finish of the wood inlays. All within around two years.

I wonder if knives made with the older finish will become more desirable ....

I guess the polished finish on the Mnandi is history too. What a shame, I like the polished finish on my Mnandi.

I've never owned a CRK knife, but this would be on my list of things I couldn't care less about. Now if they start offering Magnacut as a standard offering, then that would be more interesting. Couldn't care less if it's polished or bead blasted when the blade steel is S30V or S45V.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the stonewashing CRK does on their blades. Few do it better.
Now the scale polish, that’s one of those extra things that always put the wood inlays into another class (for me anyway).

Good luck Tim. What comes will come.

I actually got rid of my wood inlay because of the shiny finish. Much prefer the standard bead blast and brushed.

What's been happening with the mnandi of late?

Yes. For how much money they charge for the knives I do not understand why one handle is nice and polished while the other is just dull grey. It really ruins the look.
