New Condor Parang

the third parang picture taken from my site at http://rainforestoutdoor.blogspot.com . I bought one at Tamu Kota Belud Market, Sabah during my expedition to Mount Tambuyukon Sabah Malaysia in November 2010. very good and sharp parang indeed for camping and outdoor activities...

I love the pic of the last one is there a way to order one and have it shipped?

Visit Southeast Asia and you'll see so many variations in what people call a "parang" that you'll understand there is no one specific design, only a specific ergonomic engineering concept. That concept is the sweeping or lowering of the blade edge angle in relation to the handle which is usually at from 35 degrees to 40 degrees angled upward in relation to the angle of the blade. Hope that made sense.

That's true, especially in indonesia this Machetes aka "parang",Malay community in Java and Sumatra make a machete as a weapon of battle.
in Java it's called Golok or Bedog.

i have a kukri from John McCurdy and a condor parang. ill be honest, i broke the handle on the parang today (got it for x-mas). the bottom rivet popped apart inside i guess and chewed my hand up pretty good. you can see where the blade is cracking the wood and the nice little edge on the rivet. as for the kukri, still 100% since the day i bought it.

at shot show but l will get you info on a replacement soon

thanks joe, but no need. i already got in touch with rick and he has sent in the request to noemy for my replacement. i was heartbroken when it happened, i had somehow destroyed my zombie slayer! i think now im going to try my hand and a little bladesmithing with the blade of the parang and my CS magnum kuk (which i also broke the handle off of). maybe re handle it in some ironwood with steel rivets and epoxy to hold the handle together. i need to touch up the blade a little more too. i hit friggin rock when i was out cutting the other day and rolled the edge hard :grumpy:. i filed it away and now im working on bringing it back to a paper slicing sharpness with my lansky puck. if i get my hands on a harbor freight belt sander then its on, ill reprofile it and make it beautiful once again, maybe put a heavier curve up towards the nose. but for now its got a slight flat portion in the blade, right above the sweet spot. one thing i love so far is the customer service with condor. you would never get something like this from lynn thompson and cold steel.

ive looked around for them and since lofty has retired it is hard to find. you would have to do ebay or something. take a look at the chris caine survival tool. he supposedly has the torch passed to him now from lofty.
