good choices Jeff - I was pretty impressed with that survival camp myself.
There were some very good entries.

Yes, the survival camp and the rabbit trap were awesome, the log splitting caught my eye though - simple stuff that you do not seen being done anymore but a real-world skill. I was impressed.

email sent!
thanks for the win jeff, and congrats to the other winners.
Glad you liked the pic, yes that was a interesting task i tried this summer. my grandfather thought i was crazy for doing it.

the trail i hacked out with machete bout 200 feet down to my wood cutting area. really enjoyed the machete work here, moved that whole tree by hand down this trail.

I agree - I've split logs like that before, and it's serious work -- now I use a chainsaw to do the splitting for me.
As to the bushcraft hideout - white oak is pretty bug/rot resistant, another tree like that would go a long ways towards making an impressive hobo camp!

Awesome pics/skills/contest/prize.

Totally wishing I bought a place with more land now!

Lame, I got here late to the party. I'm going on a hike and was going to demonstrate my log holding down skills.:D

Hey disduster what kind of hatchet/ axe did you use?

Hey disduster what kind of hatchet/ axe did you use?

i used a box store 8lb maul and sledgehammer, several steel wedges, some wooden wedges i made on the spot. the hatchet/axe in the pic is a custom by me, true temper jersey i cut the top inch off of and hung on a 15 inch handle, 2.5 pound but on a handle of that size works like a champ for driving wedges, splitting kinkling and swinging two handed, one handed can wear on you after a minute. here's a shot of her with some friends, i love that axe.

Interesting choices! I like the log splitting pics..very cool.

The rabbit trap was interesting too, i would like to see a step by step on how to build that trap.

ive seen savage sic slayers camp a few times before, but a very neat setup none the less!

congrats all!

Thanks ESEE crew. There were some really sweet entries in this contest. I really want to try the sleeping platform.I need trees big enough to hold me though.

it's surprisingly warm in the lean to when the fire is going strong.the awesome part about a Dakota firepit is it's self feeding.just stand the wood on it's end in the coals and it'll burn long enough to get a little shut eye before you have to add more wood.
