New CRKT knives.

Kit,
Garageboy and I both EDC the CRKT M-16's as does most of the drivers at the company I work for. I'm not sure how the other guys feel, but I love the Bowie style blade like that of the buck 110. Aside from blade shape, I love everything else about the knife exactly the way it is.

Thanks for the quick response. Please take as much time as you need as I'll run out and buy one as soon as it hits the market.

On the other hand, I already own a few CRKT's. is it possible to just buy a blade and drop it in?

I have an arrangement with CRKT for plain edge. Not all models, but most. You guys email me and I'll see what I can do. I'm a PE fan also.

Cougar, good point, but who wants to wait 3+ years for a knife. :)

Kit, I'D wait 3+ years for a custom M4! Any room on the list? I'm sure I could be in a position to make that purchase by then!

Sincerely,
Anthony

P.S. I'm still selling my whole collection at the moment, but 3 years is a long time, and I like to save pennies!!!

I really hope that the First Strike Military's edge is sharper than the regular First Strikes reportedly are.

Sure, but they might have corrected the QC problems they had with the First Strike when they were setting this model up for release.

Steve Corkum has been removed from the name of the knife and the collab page. (Some one on the other board mentioned that he sucks ::shrug)

Is it just me or does the new "Special Forces Cruiser" look a bit like a Spyderco Gunting?

Because of the flipper..? IIRC CRKT has been using that feature well before the Gunting hit the market. Apart from that, I don't notice any similarities between these two folders at all.

Dan, the flipper on the Gunting is located on the spine of the knife (think a Wave or the opening thingee on the ti-lite). The Gunting is designed to be used as an impact tool.

Thanks for your reply Kit.

I have read threads on this subject on all the forums (including USN), most other posts were much stronger than mine, I certainly was not upset, certainly calm and rational when I posted so it stands as originally stated.

I didn't single out any particular Model but if I had to I would consider the change to the Crawford/Kasper folder the biggest concern.

Just expressing my thoughts... others may certainly see it differently.

Is the Hammond cruiser down graded too? I thought they would UPDATE the steel on that
Yep... AUS4, which does seems like an actual downgrade.

The Rollock 2 appears to be a bit more "one hand" user friendly. I have a Rollock 1 and must use both hands to close it completely. (It can be done one handed but feels clumsy.) The little notch on the R2 seems facilitate closing the knife with thumb pressure while holding it in only one hand. It does make the blade look a bit odd though. The new scales do look nice.

I don't know about the downgrade in steel. I've only had my Rollock 1 for a few weeks and haven't put it through extensive cutting chores or sharpening. It was shaving sharp fresh out of the box.

When I bought my Rollock the website I bought it from actually threw in one of those CRKT Wranglers for free. I guess they thought I was CRKT fan and wanted to get rid of some inventory. Not a bad little knife for $0.00.

All things considered, I'll stick to my Rollock 1.

I was also eagerly awaiting the 2005 CRKT catalog. CRKT's still good customer service owed me a knife as a replacement for one that failed and couldn't be fixed (a Contrail that jammed in locked position). What I found was a lot of AUS4, no more plain edge M16s (except the too-small for me EDC), and some gimmicky new designs. Come on, guys - you used to make knives in ATS34, now even AUS8 is fading from your lineup. I chose the Starlight for the relatively thin all-metal handle, an interesting lock, and the AUS8. But I would have preferred a polished blade - bead blasted can be hard to clean, and an EDC is expected to cut food, too. All in all, I was disappointed in the choices. Hope your customer service keeps up the good work, and you find a way to sell some more interesting knives.

I think most of the knife consumers out there is not going to know the difference between 420, aus8, 440C or A2 tool steel. Marketing has deemed that price is more important than performance
