Interesting thing to note:
Militec-1 is not a rust inhibitor, it is primarily a lubricant, so I can't see why one would want it on the entire blade.

So I probably can't get much better than my Tuf Glide + CRK Grease combination.

Don't have an XM24 here with me today but trust me. It flips open twice as hard as the XM18 due to the extra weight and length of the blade.

cziv - Does the militec make the blade look any glossier? Can you touch the blade and tell there is something on it?

No, it looks the same as the day I got it. I have photos of it last Friday and you can't tell the difference. Oh, I forgot they're in the original post of this thread so you can decide.

I was going to add in my post but forgot, that this stuff "leaves no fingerprint to the touch" or anything to let you know it's there. :)

Read their website info, Militec-1 bonds on a molecular level. "It's a corrosion inhibitor." I've added a drop of Quick Release oil once in a great while - just to see if helped the pivot but I use it on my blades and I get "0" rust. I talked to these guys on the phone a couple of times and I trust them. The Army and them are having squabbles now about their NSN (I think it's called) classification but the Commandant of the Coast Guard ordered a ton of it and it's recommended for use by the Coast Guard. I do know that much.

If you're in the Military you just call them and the'll send it to you for free.

Don't think oil - think anti-corrosive lubricant http://militec1.com/ :)

thanks for the video Rick! Awesome tutorials..

Hey you guys, I found this cool old thread while searching for best lubricants and rust prevention products for knives. :)

Made me rethink rust prevention as opposed to pivot lube, possibly being a 2 part procedure for those who lube their knives.

Looks like I may switch for my blades and use whatever oil I care to (if any) on my pivots.

Check it out it's well done IMO. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=389685

I was reading the OP and I was expecting to see confetti when you said "Here's the box it came in." :p

Very interesting information. My Tuf Cloths dry out relatively fast without use, so I didn't exactly want to add another one on there. But it sounds like I ought to toss out the old cloths and go with the Marine. I'm just curious to know whether or not Tuf Glide would recharge the Marine Cloth as well.

Also curious is how they seem to work better with a firm wipe down for some odd reason. Probably worth a try to squeeze the cloth itself a little harder when wiping down:thumbup:.

Yes, I find it all very interesting too. My understanding from reading, was that can re-charge the marine tuf cloth from a small bottle of the standard tuf glide. Odd isn't it, you'd expect a different soultion to recharge the Marine but I rad the comapany and other sites and it doesn't seem to be that way?

I read that you sent the knife or blade that was surface rusting, back to be checked out? Maybe you'll get a Duratech 20CV or S35VN replacement blade. Let me know so I can send mine back too darnnit! I love both of those steels. :grumpy: :D
