As you can tell from my moniker, I'm a Doberman nut, and I had the fine folks at CRK do me up a custom Sebenza 21 with a Doberman silhouette, brown maroon anodizing, amber cabochon, and matching dual thumbstuds and spacer.

I placed my order 8/11/2010, and received it less than 90 days later, on November 2. While no one else may care about having a dog on their Sebenza but me, I'm as happy as I can be with the result, and was delighted with the professionalism and help of Charmaine.

Well, I know, pics or it didn't happen, so here's the best I could do with my cell phone camera (wifey has a Canon that cost $3k, but I don't know how to use it).

Very cool - you must be thrilled to finally have it!

So is this going to be a user, or one for the safe?

Congrats dobervol!

Looks really cool, that Doberman engraving has fine detail.

That really turned out very nice!:thumbup:

The most important thing, though: How does the Dobie like it? ;)

Wow!A custom order done within 90 days!I thought that'd be unheard of!

Congrats on your custom Seb!

derek, thrilled is the understatement of the century.

As for your question, I want with all my heart to make it a user, but after using it to open a single envelope, I'm finding difficulty using it for much of anything, and I fear it may become a safe queen, it's just so purty!

I think I'm just going to give up and get a couple plain Sebbies, a lg and sm, for EDC knives to abuse, and just give up my plans to regularly use this one, even gently.

When CRK gets in new Damascus, it's going back for a new blade, too. More to look forward to.

My understanding is that all the credit for design mock-up and final execution goes to Merlin. My pics don't do it justice. The anodizing has a kind of marbled appearance that reflects light off at different angles.

Congrats dobervol!

It seems to me that this beautiful knife is especially meaningful for you and from your words I don't see you ever selling it off. Carry it and use it. Don't worry about the occasional scratch or ding, those are character lines. The continuing satisfaction you'll enjoy having it with you will make you forget the price you paid. Almost ;)

I c/n believe it, either. When I heard that, my call to, ahem, "gather information" turned into a "yeah, I'd like to go ahead and place an order" call. :D

If any of you have any custom ideas yourselves, be warned--if you call CRK, the chances you'll go ahead and pull the trigger are about 95%.

Thanks; they'll do whatever you ask them to, w/in reason.

Find a pic that isn't too detailed and send it to them online (or do what I did, send them three and have them choose the one they could work with the best).

That's a gorgeous knife!

I wonder if they do labs...

Dallas, you are 100% right. Thanks a bunch for redirecting my thoughts back to where they were originally when I placed my order.

The reason I spent this much for a custom was because I could assure myself that I would never, ever want to sell this knife. And it probably means more to me than it ever could to anyone else, anyway. For that reason, I'd enjoy it more w/me than just thinking of it laying in the safe.

Sweet knife and wonderful dogs! Great stuff! Been a while since I've seen a CRK true custom like that. Enjoy it in good health.

Professor.

Well, sure, since you're not my wife. ;)

You can figure out what yours would cost, approx., if you add $120 to the price of what one of their regular knives costs with the same features if you option it out.

The $120 is for a "custom setup fee," to do the actual custom work. Yes, that's all. The remaining price I paid was the usual price as reflected on their price list, for a unique large Sebbie, two colors (the head actually is outlined in gold, with the brown maroon the second color) of anodizing, amber cabochon, dual colored thumblugs and colored spacer. W/shipping, $700-ish to my door total.

When you consider how expensive that kind of Sebbie is usually, adding on $120 for the privilege to have exactly what I wanted seemed cheap, all things considered. And again, I can't sing the praises of the ladies at CRK enough. Outstanding, professional customer service from the first contact to the last.

Can I ask what the cost of a "custom" like that costs?

Sounds like a killer deal All In All.

I mean we are talking about a knife that will keep cutting once we're in the ground.
To have life time satisfaction with a particular blade sounds completely fair to me!

I don't need to tell you to enjoy it. Well because you had it made to your liking! :D:thumbup:
