New Discovery survival show, "The Colony"

someone on another site said that Mike (the handyman) from season 1 was the limo driver at the end of Firewall, the recent movie with Harrison Ford.

if so, they're probably ALL no name, bit part actors, not "joe and jane average" as suggested.

i watched season 1 and was amazed that they walked past the solar panels the first day and then it took them for-ev-er to go back and get them.

i'll have to catch it on Hulu or something. i found it interesting to watch, but mostly as a bad example of what not to do.

now, if you threw Dave and Cody into the mix, Dave would probably end up running the show in short order.

i had been hoping that this season would continue with the remaining cast from season 1 but at the new location with the people there.

when i looked up the GPS coordinates from the first show's title screen it wasn't the location in the show. it looked like it may have been someone's home near the beach, or perhaps the office of the production team a block from the beach.

I enjoyed Season 1, but it was humorous to me to see these people buy into the whole thing so much.

They built silly things like flamethrowers, cattle prod type weapon, etc... as if the producers of the show would let them get hurt the by the bad guys(actors) or let them hurt the bad guys. The girls would constantly give passersby food and assistance and get all butt hurt when the guys didn't want to. I don't see how it's possible to suspend reality and not realize that the people you are literally crying about not helping are ACTORS!

It would be nice to see a cast that had a skill set less beneficial in survival situations than Season 1s. They had a couple engineers, a contractor, a handyman, a nurse, etc...

It's essentially Junkyard Wars and Survivor combined minus the eliminations.

However, being a bit of a gearhead, I did find it interesting watching the creations they came up with. I'll watch it again.

I actually bought season 1 at at Target for 12.00, and thought it was OK, but I wish they would just drop the "fending off marauders" crap.

They know they are on a TV show, and they know your not really gonna let them get hurt by an attacker, so just quit trying to build tension with that scenario.

The rigging up water, power and stuff was interesting.

They need to "seed" the cast with someone like Gary Bussey to make it realistic, not "green scientists."

I know one of the guys on the upcoming season, and he's definitely the "real deal". Look for a supporting role by (IIRC) the Rat-3 D2.

I have a hard time believing that the cast really feels that they are in a true bug out(in) situation. That just ruins the show for me. I watched a few of the episodes from the first season and it just seemed too staged for my taste. I am interested in the new show but don't expect much.

The purported physical conflicts with the bad guys are really the most stupid part of the show, which I wish they would leave out. Were this a real world scenario, I would be trying to F up in a very serious way anyone who was trying to steal my food or take my goodies. The cast members on this show obviously cannot do that, so pretending to defend one's territory is not just pointless, but really detracts from the show.

But I'll still be watching. :) At least at first.

I gave up on season 1 when the show started turning into a bitchfest. This seems to be the trend for quasi-reality series be it this one, Dual Survival, American Chopper, Deadliest Catch etc. The formula is simple- the more interpersonal conflict they put in these shows, the more viewers tune in (and the faster I tune out).

Yeah I also tried to get into season 1 but it was hard. I've been pretty happy with Dual Survivor and the Man & Woman series so far. I'm not holding much hope for the Colony. We'll see I guess. Anyone been watching Top Shot ? Haven't seen it mentioned here.

i dvr that as well and watch it when i get some free time its ok. think the cast is over-rated i have not seen much skill. i am in no way a professional marksman and think i would have a good chance at it. the ones that are skilled in certain areas seem to have the most trouble where you think they would succeed. just my opinion.

Yeah amen. One of the first things I would do in a survival scenario is make spears, lots of them and Very sharp ones. Jezz I even make them when I'm campin. Those ahem..Bad guys? If they tryed to take my things I needed with force? Well a bunch of them would have a crapola load of spearholes in their butts, or other better targets. And I can throw spears quite well. So I guess alot of bad boy cast members (if I was told this was the real deal) would be runnin to their hollywood attys. cryin about some Nut pokin holes in them cuz they were actin bad. But I guess they may show some new ideas with this and that. Last years Wood gas burner was something new to me. I may even make one to see if it really works 1/2 as well? Enjoy edgy

This show's commercial is on every effing channel during every commercial break. F. I can't wait for this to air so I don't have to watch any more commercials for it.

BTW, I saw the first season of this show a while ago...it blew.

All the new survival shows suck hard. They should not have done away with Survivorman. That was by far the most interesting and fun to watch. They just go downhill from there...

I just watched the season opener.

I enjoyed it. The fighting scenes seemed unreal. It's all pre-organized TV.
The first episode showed lots of action. I don't think "looters" came that quickly last season.

The overall subject nature of the program makes me want an ESEE 5 :D

I watched it last night, seems they've ramped up the very elements that I disliked the most from last season and are headed for pseudo-road warrior........

If a dirty kid with a sharpened boomerang shows up in the next episode. :thumbdn:

They should show ways to survive and working together! I agree they should take out the purported physical conflicts with the bad guys.

It's a repeat performance of last years season, I'll be bored of it soon, but may keep watching it if there is nothing better on. They need to make it more realistic and not so forced, as there is little drama content.

Agreed. I would be hurting somebody in a real world scenario.
The Hollywood actors can not literally hurt somebody.

kinda funny the maruaders can smack them around , older guy gets whacked to the face with box leveling him to the ground and the other get maced/peppersprayed and you cant defend yourself other than slinging folks around.... that is the worst part of the show IMO
