New edc.

You can own a sword cane here.
You cannot have a weapon disguised as something else that is less the 30cm long.

10 Any device having a length of less than 30 cm and resembling an innocuous object but designed to conceal a knife or blade, including the device commonly known as the “knife-comb”, being a comb with the handle of the comb forming a handle for the knife, and any similar device.

Carrying it around is a different matter, unless you're hiking in the woods or something like that.

Oh my. Lust rekindled. I like being wrong sometimes.

With a bad back, neck, and chronic pain, I've been considering one of cold steels walking sticks. How comfortable is the handle on the city stick?

For dogs when out and about, I often carry a stun gun. My own dogs have freaked and cowered when that electricity cracks. No I've never used one on them, but I have on myself. Turned out to be a couple of my kids' favorite "dumb dad" stories.

It's more comfortable than I expected, that's for sure. I wouldn't recommend it to someone with gigantic or particularly sensitive hands. However, the round shape combined with the stick's overall light weight means it's very easy to manipulate and use.

No joke, in Highland Park, the worst large area of Detroit, there was at the peak, about 3-5 deaths a month from feral dogs. I plan on working in there to clear out a library and save the books, but not before I get a CCW. There's more than dogs to worry about there though, it's also one of the most dangerous areas.
To the OP, all the power to you, you know better than us what the danger levels are where you live. Just make sure you practice pulling it out before you need to.

Wow. That's worse than I thought. I've heard about the feral dog packs problem in Detroit only in History Channel where they had a show analysing what will happen once humans disappear.

I hope thinks will improve and ccw sounds good.

Yeah I really really want to get into the shut down library and organize a clean out, donating books and getting a little bit of cool stuff for myself too. Might not go with CCW and just open carry.

I'm a "bleeding heart liberal," but I'm also a father and husband, and I wouldn't think twice to take down a dog that was threatening me, my wife, or my daughter. Even those of us to the left of Mao recognize the importance of protecting ourselves.

Will soon be carrying this legally on my evening dog walks to protect against vicious stray dogs, which can be a problem out here, thanks

to impending law changes here in OK.

...Errm, are you kidding?! You would be better off with a rolled up newspaper and I wouldn't accuse you of being cruel to animals. :)

I was glad to find out I was wrong about them...I used to think they weren't allowed here either. :)
I think it may be due to the fact that there are some very nice, expensive sword canes out there...there aren't very many high quality hair brush knives.
I used to have one of those pen knives back when they were legal...it was not very good. It did write though, and was a neat little curiosity for a bit.

Carry what is legal and defend yourself and family within the laws. If the laws suck where you live, move. There is no excuse to not be able to defend you or your family's safety.

Just carry bear spray..no need to kill a dog. Besides, you will look like the biggest d*ck with that thing. Lol

If you are unwilling to defend you or even more importantly, your children's safety because you don't want to "kill a dog" you have your priorities wrong.

A hickory walking stick would do just as well, and teach the dog a good lesson without killing it. What do you do when you kill someone's pet in their front yard, and they come after you?

If you go on to someone else's property to kill their dog you are an idiot. If you don't defend you and/or your family's safety against loose dogs in public or on your own property you are also an idiot.

Dogs are very much an extension of their owner. I don't want to see a single dog killed. That said, there are a lot of stupid and lazy people in this world. Some of them own dogs.

I don't always agree with craytab
But this is one if those times I do100%

An attacking dog doesn't know better then not to kill my son, mauling him the process if he fails to achieve the kill. An attacking dog is acting on impulsive predatory instinct.

God forbid it woukd ever happen, but Whether I "have to" kill the dog in that scenario or not becomes completely irrelevant, because if attacking my family, I will, period.

Just like I don't "have to" kill an intruder in my house.
But you best believe if it comes down to confronting an intruder in my house, I'm not taking leg shots. And he/she won't have a say in court if I can help it. It'll be my word versus a ballistics report.

Great posts, craytab and strategy9. I like dogs more than I like people most of the time, but I'm going to do what I have to do in order to protect me and mine.
