New ESEE DPx H•E•S•T Folder

Again, the serialized version will ONLY be available from dpxgear.com web site

This has taken some time to come together, but it will become my daily carry folder. I've never carried any of our knives as an EDC simply because I like heavy-duty folders. Most of the design elements are in place with this one for me to EDC full time, so carrying anyone else's folder is probably going to become a thing of the past for me once these start shipping ;)

what heavy duty folders did you carry?

Al Mar SERE 2000 is one of my all-time favorites.

This looks and sounds to be a great knife; good work all involved! Thanks for offering this product.

Definitely gonna have to pick me up one. Now, the big question. Where has the prybar ran off to? I probably use it more than the blade.

I love me some ESEE and that my friends is a GAMECHANGER.

Seriously, D2, Ti and lowrider pocket clip?? Count me in.

Nice work and well sorted just like ALL of your other tools.

I am astonished.
By the way, as the knife is built in Italy and I actually live in Italy, will I ever have the possibility to buy it here or directly by Lion Steel? (I mean, I do not need the numbered series or special package etc... I am interested in the knife only)
Cheers!!

No, not direct from Lion Steel but you will be able to buy from our Italian dealer.

The DPx HEST uses a choil to ensure exact sharpening and a lashing point when used in conjunction with the opener/thumbgrip But we don't recommend the choil being used as a wire breaker on the folder (the fixed blade). The D2 tool steel is actually harder than the fixed blade (which has impressive strength, hardness and springiness) but can be brittle. In this short, thick beautifully tapered blade there is no worry about breakage but you want to abuse your fixed HEST as a chisel, axe, hammer, prybar etc because you can grind, polish or paint it back. D2 is wicked stuff for cutting but I wouldn't use as a prybar. In any case we will be running destruction tests on the first runs and posting the results here.

A lot of people asked about the prybar and it is not our goal to simply copy ideas from existing blades, Because the folder slides in and out of pockets all day we left the dirty work of prying to the fixed blade DPx HEST. BUT no one has commented on the MR DP skull tool that comes with every knife! Its going to be a cool little conversation piece and a stand alone multi tool with yet ANOTHER opener, scraper, blade, hex tool, defense weapon etc etc. And don't forget the sexy made in US Afghan Campaign lanyard. The total package is going to make brave men faint when they look under the tree at Christmas!

The D2 steel we are using is made in Germany and has amazing edge retention and strength. It is not a pure stainless but is very stain resistant. More info here for metal heads:

Ciao Dilettante,

EDIT: Jeff has been quicker than me :)

looks like the bottle opener could be used to wave the blade open, too. maybe i'll keep carrying the izula in my left pocket when this comes out.
