New fighter design with a touch of tanto....

Just finished up gluing up scales on my last knife for the OKCA show next month and breathed a big sigh of relief. I've had my nose to the grindstone (pun intended:D) for weeks now and I'm whooped, so today I decided to play around with something new and fun just to change it up a bit. Here is the first fighter design I've done in a long time, with a little bit of tanto in it's blood. CPM 154 and measures in just a hair over 12 inches long overall. Looking forward to grinding this one out.

Comments welcome...

Cool, Jonny. I always like seeing your work. Flat grind with a tapered tang? And a nice combo of synthetic scales and liners?

Wish I had a table at OCKA this year. Maybe next year. And maybe I'll try to just show up with a couple knives and just walk around. It would be cool to meet some of you guys in person and see your work.

Thanks Salem and Erik!

Salem, I hope you do! Would be great to meet you in person after all this time and see some of your work as well:thumbup:

That looks cool. You know what is funny to me? Your actual grind lines will be straighter than the marker line you put on there. It is usually the opposite for me, but I have been watching your grind lines, and they are always crisp and laser straight.

Whoa Jonny! That is all kinds of awesome! I like how you mix it up, but your work is instantly recognizable as yours. I need to hook up with you at your shop sometime this spring, maybe I'll start saving for the gas money in the truck now...! Even if I just sweep your floors and change your grinder belts, I think watching you work would be more educational than a years worth of reading on here!

Very nice buddy!

We are getting bigger and better I see... when will you unveil a massive JMK chopper??? :D

Haha Nick:D The first incarnation had a much more stabby point, but I looked at it and all I could think of was a turkey carver! Maybe I'll have to find a balance somewhere between the two. Originally I set out to draw up a something nice and pointy but then didn't like what I had. Before you know it, I ended up with the "tanto camp knife";) still have plenty of time and steel to experiment with this one.

;) Just bust'n your chops Jon!!! :D

I'll probably have a fighter done when you guys visit, and I'm guessing you say it's too pointy. :p

I'm wondering if I'll convince you to do some hidden tangs after you're here..... :)

I sure hope so! :D

Edited to add: I mean you do great work and I would love to see where you take hidden tangs and even....say it with me...Take downs! ;)

A good change of pace, Jonny. I do agree if you want a fighter more pointy and less belly near the front. Frank

I suggest that you grind the bevels a little deeper... it actually looks as if they are only drawn in at this point. The handle seems a bit thin and if you aren't putting scales on, at least break the sharp corners. All in all, this is exactly the quality of blade I have come to expect from you, Jonny.

Maybe hit it with some hi-heat BBQ paint for stealth. Just thinkin' outloud, buddy.;)

Rick, those are some great ideas........but I don't really want to do an outright copy of your work! It just wouldn't be right.......;)

Danbo......maybe a couple, but I think I'm gonna taper the tang on this one:p

Nice save! ;) :D I meant it the same way Patrice!!! :)

Jon is one of the handful of guys that I've watched really progress, right here over the forum. This new blade makes it look like Jon is branching out into some new ground, and I just meant it will be cool to see him tackle some new techniques to expand his skill set and body of work.
