New FIRE KIT pics

Thanks, Tony. I put a gauge to the flint on my gen 1 and it is indeed 3/8". I just wanted to make sure that the new ones were the same. Now I need to go confirm my order with Kiah. :)

How long do these strikers last? I've only has experience with one cheaper kmart one the camping section and was not please in the least bit of the longevity. I understand this is quality stuff, but i am curious

With a compass in the bottom, that's better than a Red Ryder BB gun!

And you can't shoot your eye out with it either!
Finally, there is some small print on a product worth reading!

They aren't built for longevity, they are built to use in a survival situation where life or death might be decided by fire. With that said, the rods are replaceable and the barrels should last a lifetime.

The RAT firesteel should last quite a while, being a chunk of 3/8" thick misch (sp?) metal.

as for longevity--I don't think you will wear it down any too quickly. There are thousands of fires in the kit.

I ordered one of these fire kits recently. Should get it in the mail anytime now. Can't wait to try it out.

I have a couple of the original ones and added compasses - couldn't be happier with them. Jealous tho...... new Fire Kits look great!
