so back to my original post lol thoughts on an emerson cqc-15 with serrations? Im dead set on having Emerson serrations on a recurve and the blade looks great. Thoughts?

i do like emersons, but personally i trust liner locks the least, how about a backlock or an axis lock knife

they're ok. Not a big fan of axis locks or lock backs. I feel for my every day tasks i dont need something too strong. I have a fixed blade and manix 2 for those chores. Ive had frame locks fail on me, i surprisingly trust liner locks more than frame locks. The only problem i can see with the liner lock is lock rock

to be fair i have carried a spyderco military in my rotation for years and its never had any issues, i do trust the liner lock on that. its all personal preference really. im really to into benchmades right now, i just ordered a benchmade mini griptilian tanto for edc and self defense. also i found that i dont carry my emersons as much because i prefer knives with frn/plastic type handles more than rougher g10 ones. id rather carry a spyderco delica or native, or a benchmade griptilian or mini barrage. its smoother coming in and out of my pocket. either way try what you like, you can always sell it on ebay if you dont like it.

Ive had a griptilian before and man i love that plastic handle. Something about it is just really nice

Yeah, I’d have to agree with the dude discussing situational awareness. Situational awareness is always the best defense. Understanding social queues, body language, environment, etc. are all more important than speed on the draw. I actually question your ability to even provide advice on this topic if you think otherwise. There’s a reason every viable self-defense system teaches awareness; it works.

As for OP: Keep your Manix 2 and invest the other funds in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lessons. Learn how to control distance and put an attacker down in a one on one scenario and learn how to escape a mounted opponent in the event that there are multiple attackers. The best defense once engaged is to do everything you can to get away. If you can’t get away and your life is on the line, fight like hell or carry a gun.

I still have one of the very first CS Tanto’s from it had to be like 30 + years ago

I was in Arizona visiting a friend and I bought one at a high end cutlery store ...... man I loved that knife :)

It was a great knife than and even though I think the build quality has changed I’m sure they are still good today

Lynn I know was inspired by Hartsfield and Bob Lum
I have an old CS Tanto as well. Bought years ago.

Quality is very nice and that was the knife many companies tried to emulate. Many failed.

As for Cooper; Ive read most of his writings and agree with your points re Coopers system.

I have a couple of buddies who knew him. He was controversial though.

Further more, one couldnt ask for better rifles than Coopers - they rock and I personally agree with the philosophy behind them. A light weight short rifle with long eye relief is awesome for hunting IMO.

Re Emersons with serrations;

Im not big on serrations but ironically the only Emerson I own has them.

Plenty other people likes serrations so I might be in the minority on that one

BTW, I did read everything. Just the way he typed everything out hurt my eyes.
Well, it sorta kinda 'hurt my eyes,' when you earlier in the thread misread my sentence about 'an average Joe having a fat chance in a knife fight' and accused me of dissing obese people and handicapped people.

So all of a sudden this is about Joe fat? What about a guy in a wheelchair? Are we now comparing that as well?

This is the difference between Emerson knives and utility knives. The guys that carry Emersons already have a pre-mindset for self defense.

Lets say "Joe fat" goes to Brazil and he has no training and is not a motivated individual to save his own life. What if someone in Brazils hold a knife to his daughters throat? Don't you think that would be proper motivation? Or would you just stand there?

WOW....just WOW...

For every day/utility use, I dont see why there should be a problem.

I like liner locks just fine.

I havent used my Emerson. Am looking at a non-serrated.

But a lot of Emerson owners talk about the lock up and I notice its par for the course to assure potential buyers in sales ads, that lock up is indeed early.

I’ve walked around
South America
Central America
Kazakhstan
Kirgistan
Tajikistan
Afghanistan
Africa ....Tanzania , South Africa to Zimbabwe
Turkey
Canada from BC to Labrador
China
Mexico
USA from NY to California to Alaska to Hawai and everywhere in between

Situational awareness has kinda served me well but thank you for the heads up :)
Why on earth would an American civilian be walking around in Afghanistan? Genuinely curious because while I was deployed it never seemed like a good destination spot for the lone civilian. Still to this day 8 years later it's still a dangerous place.

Perhaps @colubrid not putting yourself in dangerous places is the better way to go. Just as I don't see a reason a civilian should book a flight to Juarez and walk through cartel infested neighborhoods, I can't fathom why a civilian or anyone would walk around in taliban infested countries.

That's just me though. It's not super bad ass to put yourself in danger. It's idiotic.

On the topic of dangerous places, I was stationed at ft.bliss, which is on the border of Juarez mexico. So close the Mexicans and Americans can see each other through the fences. As soldiers we were prohibited from travelling to Juarez due to the cartel murdering people daily. (I got stationed there in 2009)

It wouldn't make me a tough guy or tactical commando to break army regulations and wander through murderous neighborhoods. It would be a foolish thing to do. I see no man points being awarded to people who purposely put themselves in danger. Unless you're a soldier or marine there on a deployment, I just can't understand why anyone would go there (warzones) and frolic o_O

Reminds me of RYP but at least he was a reporter and seeking dangerous places for news stories (still not a god idea). Reporters and such are safer being attached to a unit that will keep them from having their heads removed.
