Okay, I know you a bit better now...

Ex US Army & US Air Force 1972-1987, then spent 6 years as a Special Ed teacher for Severe Behavior Jr. & Sr. High males, now a contract Computer Systems Engineer for the USAF (although I do more Project Managment than anything else). Married, 2 kids, 5 grandkids, 49 years old and a decent size at 6'3", 250#. Currently have 8 Kuhk's and plans for several more. Enjoy fishing, shooting sports (used to be a "SAMTU" Small Arms Marksmanship Training Unit instructor in the AF), been shooting in all forms of competition for about 27 years, collect firearms, knives, high grade hand crafted smoking pipes and I guess you could describe me as a "Motorcycle Enthusiast" ;)

How's that for a quick life summary?

ps: I can *almost* sharpen a knife LOL....

I am 58 and live and work in central Illinois. We think of Indiana as mountainous around here. It is realllly flat in Illinois. I teach psychology at a local college.

When it isn't so cold, I may do some target shooting, but I have been too busy at work lately....and spending too much time on this forum.

I am originally from NYC, and lived in NC for 23 years. I never knew how much I liked NC until I moved to Illinois.... I miss the mountains and hills. The Edwards accent now sounds normal to me.

I have been married since 1967 - to the same woman. I hate to think of how many years it has been. I won't tell you my weight, since that would force me to stand on the scale.

This group is very diverse, and interesting.

My name is Heber Ellsworth (Notice, Heber only has 1 "R" in it) and I've been around the forum since about July or August 2001. Was a college student at a comunity college in Ephraim UT back then. Now I am a Customer Service Rep for the USPS.

Only have 5 khukuris right now and one more on the way. But I have had over 16 in the last 2.5 years. In College, I was in the Outdoor club there and used my Khukuri's on camping trips. On one such trip I ended up servering 4 tendons in my left wrist and made it into the safty thread. lol

Been working a lot do to the holidays but am now taking a few weeks of work which I have not had since my accident 1.5 years ago. Life is pretty good right now.

It's nice to see all these new people posting and enjoying khukuris and the Cantina as much as I do. I don't post a lot, but I love to hang out here and read.

Oh yeah a few more things, I'm 6' 4.5" tall, 160 pounds with short dark brown hair, Great smile and am Single and looking.:D

Dang Son...that tall and that light, do they have to stake you down when the wind kicks up? ;)

hee hee hee. Nope no problem with that. I'm slender boned, but I make up for it.;) he he he. Plus, being slender helps me hide behind things better. :D

Heber, you do you realize that I'm nearly a foot shorter than you but at one time weighed as much?! I'm not even heavy either.

Shoot, I'm only 3" taller than Heber and weigh TWICE as much! Damn desk jobs...

Hee heeee! Good one. Iowa is so flat that it is concave.

Well, as long as I'm posting to every other thread...

I'm 31, and live in Austin, TX. I grew up in East Texas (in a little town just west of Texarkana) and went to Austin to go to college.

Got an aerospace engineering degree and, deciding to stay in Austin, went to work for a software company just when the tech fever of the 90s was coming into its own. Needless to say, any other part of life outside of work soon disappeared.

Got acquired by a large semiconductor company and worked there for several years. Recently just quit my job because of complete disgust with corporate America and where my career was headed. Now it's back to the drawing board for me.

Was a pretty accomplished martial artist for several years and was looking at a professional career, but went the route of corporate America instead--slowly departing ways with the arts. Now I'm trying to figure out how to bring that and my love of the outdoors back...

Don't know quite where I fit in weight and height wise, but I'm 9 1/2" shorter than Heber and weigh 80 pounds more than he right now.
Not so bad as a year ago I was still 9.5" shorter and weighed 305#!!!!
Still wondering where that 65 pounds went I lost, so far.:D

Damn!!!! That means I weighed 145#s more than the Wildmanh a year ago. :grumpy: :(
If I could've taken him down I could've set on him and he would'na have been able to
move!!!! :p :D

Knew what an "outhouse" is, did a search on "sears catalog" in combination with "outhouse". Funny results. like the question below:

"In trying recently to communicate with a very, very, elderly Aunt of my > husband ( she's in her late 90's now) she remarked about a farm owned by the family, and she was real proud about how Great Uncle So n' So built a Three Hole-er!!!!" Like, wow, an outhouse with three seats was a special thing!!

Ok, Why?? Did using the outhouse (or backhouse as some refer to it) equate to some sort of social event?? Or was it a status symbol, hence, having an outhouse with more than one "hole" made the family special?? Or require more Sears Catalogs (which I understand the farming gentry used for toilet paper, ouch!) and therefore the better off folks could supply more catalogs??"

Yes, now I know another part of American history :D

Andreas

I imagine a three holer sounds like luxury until you have a family with several children, eating at the same time and wanting to go to the bathroom at the same time....

Farm families would have a lot of children.

Andreas, the paper from the catalog gave you something to do while you were doing your business, besides looking at the pictures that is.:D
Actually the pages get really soft the longer you crumple them. AND you -had- to crumple them because a slick page from the catalog just wouldn't get the job done.:grumpy: :D

Monkey Ward, aka Montgomery Ward Catalogs as well as JC Penny's and Spiegal catalogs were also used.:D

Brown and white corn cobs were also used for toilet paper. You used three brown ones and then a white one --------- to see if you needed another brown one. :D

It's posts like the one previous that make me glad I was born in the city. :D

I seem to be dropping my s's :(

Actually it was correct the first time. :)

Bruise-- didn't growing up in the city make it kinda difficult to find a decent supply of corn cobs?
