Yvsa - thanks, interesting stuff - one never knows when one might need the "crumple-idea".

... OK and now let´s raise the level of our conversation again...

OK, just a little bit.:D
Does anyone know why there are crescent moons (USA) or hearts (Germany) carved into the doors? (I know it is for venting and to see if "occupied", but why these patterns and why so often and consistantly?)

Andreas-- interesting question. I did a bit of searching on the net. The small cutouts were used to provide light and ventilation, and were generally placed above the line of sight for privacy. The reason for the moon shape in the US is that the moon is a traditional symbol for female while the sun is a traditional symbol for male. The sun and moon were used to distinguish the men's and women's outhouses during a time when many people were illiterate. Men's outhouses tended to fall into disrepair/disgusting filth more rapidly than the female bathrooms, so everyone eventually started using the ladies' room, and the moon symbol became common on most/all outhouses. Don't know if it's true or not, but certainly an interesting explanation.

Bruise-- toothbrush??? toothbrush??!?! That just about made me toss my lunch:barf: :barf:

Sorry. Never did properly introduce myself. 46 years old. Born and raised in Hawaii. Spent a few years studying on the east coast and then in England. After school, ended up getting on a plane and landing in Singapore. Got a job with a bank here (I'm sure the bank has regretted it ever since). Worked with a number of companies since then. Opened my own "barbershop" business a few years ago. My job mainly involves traveling a lot to countries in southeast and east Asia visiting companies to learn how they do what they do. Ended up living in Singapore for 20 years although I go back to Hawaii at least once a year (usually around year end).

I would have liked to list the khuks I've used. But I had a BAS taken away from me at the Singapore airport (even though it was in checked luggage and I declared it) and got an official warning so I have to lay low. Same reason why I can't post that much on this forum.

:D
